The location, the view and the efficient, courteous service offset the aging furniture, Breakfast on the outdoor deck are so pleasant that one is sometimes willing to accept the high cost, but few hotel guests seem to do so. This was our 3rd visit and we would return.

We stayed here for a family weekend. The location is great as it was convenient to all of our activities. The rooms are nice and big. We had a second story room and my parents were in a handicapped room. Our room had a nice little balcony looking over the grounds. It had plenty of space. 2 TVs in the room was a bit strange but no big deal. We did have tiny ants in the bathroom sink but did not ruin my stay.

My parents room only had one TV and they didn't have the couch area (but they did have a large chair instead). We had breakfast both morning, one morning we took it back to the room and the other ate at Gold. We only had breakfast at the hotel because all other meals were taken care of. We did meet some family for dinner at Beyond Break which is about 1/2 mile from the resort. Good food (similar to Panera Bread).

Great location and hotel if you need to be in the north end of Tucson.

This hotel is set up like a luxury motel. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are beautiful. The pool area and restaurant are disappointing. The rooms are spread out in single and double stories over large distances. It is on a large parcel with tennis courts and horseback riding. There is a giant bar area with an amazing view of the city. There might be another event room. There is signage for a spa, but this is pretty much the opposite of a spa ambiance. It is a Western ranch.

By far the best attribute of this property is the garden and landscaping. There is a wash that runs along the property and its has been landscaped with local plants and trees. It was full of hummingbirds, nests, woodpeckers, quail and doves. There was a rabbit infestation they will have to deal with.

The staff was too young and inexperienced. There's no retail in walking distance. The restaurant featured burgers and red meat. A spa resort should feature salads. Check in staff were poorly trained and goofing off. There was only 60% occupancy.

Room Tip: Birds on the Eastern side are loud. Ask for a room with "City Lights."

This was our 2nd stay here and we would definitely come back again. Initially, we were given a room facing the parking lot. We paid to upgrade to a desert view junior suite and were happy with that move. Having a fridge in the room was a plus...we weren't given one in our suite last year. The grounds are very nice. We saw hawks, lizards, quails and hummingbirds. We even heard an owl the first night. There's a nice walking path that winds around the property and gives one a taste of the desert.
We like the secondary pool because it's quiet and chill there. Points off because more than once there were NO towels available. I also think it's lame to have a "no outside food or drink policy" at the pool if there's never any staff there to get you food or beverages. We brought a small cooler to the pool with water and snacks a few times (apparently a big no-no) but nobody hassled us. I'd have been ticked if they did.
I like this property, but i'm not a fan of the daily resort fee. {$20 a day?} That feels sneaky to me. Just charge me the real rate up front, guys. Don't jerk me around.
Again, overall we really enjoyed our stay. The location is close to some good restaurants and shopping. Tucson is large and sprawling, so you can plan on driving quite a bit regardless of where you stay.
Overall, we were pleased with the room, the service and the facilities.

Dear Redbirds 1,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences from your most recent visit. We certainly appreciate the high marks!

I have reviewed your comments with our team to ensure things like replenishing towels and our food & beverage service around our pools do not fall through the cracks.

As for our resort fee, while we keep our room rates competitive, this fee really helps us to maintain our 80 plus acres encompassing our nature trail, labyrinth and in protecting the natural beauty of our surrounding Sonoran Dessert. Equally important, it helps in our many sustainability efforts which include our organic Chef’s Garden, composting and re-cycling programs.

I am delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable time and we’ll look forward to your return the next time you’re in the Tucson area.

All the best and safe travels!
