Tanque Verde Ranch has provided many wonderful trips for me and my friends. Every room is cozy and like a real ranch, with the luxurious like a mini-fridge and XM Satellite Radio. The horses there are terrific and a joy to ride. All the staff, from the wranglers, to cooks, to maids, are friendly and very welcoming. It also is a great experience to meet people from around the world that come and stay at Tanque Verde. I have been to TVR about 17 times within the last year and a half (I just live in Chandler) and it never gets old! You will definatley enjoy your stay there!

  • Liked — The staff was very kind and always trying to please. There were great views, food, horses, and you never get bored.
  • Disliked — The heat, but hey, its Arizona! But it is nice in the fall, winter, and early spring.

We stayed for 3 nights having driven down from scottsdale

we where upgraded to a suite which was very spacious with coffee maker , ,large bathroom and comfy bed, nice patio outside with plenty of loungers and a lovely view of mountains.
There are no tvs in the rooms but there is a communial tv room we didnt bother .

All the riding is included in the price there are rides for beginners and another for more advanced you have to pass a loping test to go on these my husband has been riding in england for years but falled the lope test as western riding is totally different to english hacking.

But the beginners rides are great they last about an hour and it is great scenery on the way.

They are nature walks, tennis courts, and a large lake where you can go fishing.

The food is wonderful for breakfast and evening meal it is waitress service but lunch is buffett and all the selections are great, try the stawberries dipped in chocolate they are delicious.

There is a kids club although we didnt have kids with us all the parents were raving about it they give the kids riding lessons take them on nature trails etc.

We had a bbq one evening with cowboy songs which was good im not keen on bbq food , Paranoid about food poisoning, but all my family ate it and they where ok.

the staff are all really friendly , and they is a bar where you can have a drink in the evenings.

It can get a little boring during the day if you are fed up with horse riding but the scenery is great and you can go for walks. There is also a small swimming pool

The whole ranch is very clean and the gardens areas are lovely .

I can highly recommend Tanque Verde for a family vacation. We were there the last week of March 2007. What really struck us was how many "return" guests we met. As first timers, we were definitely in the minority.

As for things to do, my family enjoys horse back riding so we took advantage of the lessons and rides that are included in the price. The place was at full capacity while we there, but we had no problem doing what we wanted to do and found the classes and rides to still be personal enough as they had a lot of wranglers on hand. AND the wranglers were really great.

The management also seems to be flexible in changing around activities each day to meet the interests of the guests so no one felt shortchanged. However, it was impossible to ask for a specific horse which was disappointing, so if this is really important to you, then don't go during spring break. I personally always seemed to get the horses that required more encouragement to get into a trot or canter and would have liked ones more eager to go fast. (I also think it may have helped to have on hard heeled shoes since I think these horses may respond better to this.)

This is primarily a family place with all the conveniences...so I would suggest going somewhere else if you want the intimate romantic getaway or really want to rough it. One day they did have a "dudeo" where you can try your hand at herding some cows if you had passed the loping test. Otherwise, it's really geared to trail or loping rides rather than cowboy or rodeo type activities. There is also a lot to do even if you aren't a rider, including the pool, hot tub, tennis (I think price includes group lessons by a pro), nature walks, and mountain biking. Most of the rooms have a fireplace so it was enjoyable to just build a fire and curl up with a good book. There were also evening lectures and entertainment...I really didn't get to attend all the ones I wanted to because I also wanted some down time.

There is a kid's club for younger kids which seemed to be well attended and enjoyed. Our 14-year old son easily found some other teens with whom to play basketball, watch the communal TV and hang out at the hot tub...they started their own teen table at dinner time within a few days.

The room was very roomy (I think we had a Deluxe 2) and well maintained and the included meals were also okay. The food seemed fresh and provided enough variety to meet different tastes.

We were at the Tanque Verde ranch from 2/17/07 to 2/25/07. Four people went, Mom,Dad, and two daughters, 11 and 13. The only thing I can say is that it was truly fantastic. The property is gorgeous, sitting on the edge of the Saguaro National Forest. What makes this place so wonderful is the beautiful setting, combined with first class accomodations.

I did not have high expectations for a "dude ranch". However, the grounds are well maintained, the food is quite good, and the horseback riding was more fun that I could have imagined. Food is served in a large communal dining room, where you can choose to sit either with your own party, or with other people. The best part of the vacation is sharing with others. There are no televisions in the rooms, which forces you to interact with others.

If you are so inclined, I strongly suggest that you take a mountain biking class with "Monk". It's free, and the guy is a wealth of knowlege.

Two times a week, you can ride your horse out to the edge of the ranch to have breakfast made out of a chuck wagon. Not to be missed. In addition, twice a week, dinner is served over a true open fire at the adjoining Cottonwood Grove. Again, not to be missed.

We truly made some great friends on this trip. This is due to the fact that you must interact with others on a daily basis.

I can say, without reservation, that this was one of the best vacations I ever took with my family. The kids loved the place even more than the parents due to the friends that they made.

RECOMMENDATIONS: If you can, upgrade to a larger room with a fire place. Quite enchanting. Bring a computer. There is very good and quick wireless access around the main house. Cell service with Verizon was excellent.

The Bellota is a gem set amid the rugged Rincon Mountains, in the heart of the desert. The atmosphere is casual, friendly and intimate--by the end of our first day, the staff were our friends. Rooms are spacious, elegant yet cozy, and spotless, although there is so much to do that you don't spend much time there, except to clean up and sleep. The beautiful great room with its copper fireplace, the enclosed sun room, and the TV room, plus the lovely Spanish style courtyard with its bubbling fountain, and the hot tub and pool, are great places to gather.
You go to the Bellota to ride, and what riding it is! The horses are sure-footed, strong, and agile. Guests groom and saddle their own mounts, although the wranglers are right there to assist if needed. The rides are challenging, up and down steep slopes, over rocks, dodging cactus--but the wranglers are careful and safety is paramount. An intermediate or advanced rider would do best on these rides, but completing them builds one's confidence tremendously. The views from hundreds of feet up are matchless!
The food is delicious and plentiful, and always available. The chef considers your personal needs and can customize a menu if necessary. If not for the riding, every guest would put on pounds at the Bellota. Guests all eat together with the staff, and mealtimes are relaxed, casual, and lots of fun.
If you would like plenty of good outdoor activity, an adult atmosphere, wonderful food, comfortable accomodations, and beautiful scenery, the Bellota is well worth a trip!

We had another great visit, thank you! We love this place- the natural beauty is wonderful and the accommodations are great. Host and hostess are all world.

Had a terrific massage/ treatment in the spa while I was there, and a couple of nice rides. The terrain is beautiful, although it does not offer much opportunity for loping- mostly up and down hills.

This feb will be the 10th year my family has visited tanque verde. We leave the dull snowy roads here to bask in the sunny Arizona climate. My children, now 18 and 15 learned to ride at Tanque Verde and now can lope with the best of them. The food..the people..the guests...all happy and extremely well fed. We love the doghouse (the bar) and the the tennis is a blast as well. Each year we all have a new favorite horse thanks to Gus and the the other wranglers who really put thought into who each guest will be riding. After reading the reveiw about how badly the horses were treated, i felt i had to comment. I am up every morning with my coffee watching the horses get ready for the day. Yes sometimes there is mud..its called after rain! These precious animals are loved and taken care of with the wranglers heart and soul! My daughter has also been to camp in the summer and loved it.. all in all...it truley is Heaven on Earth
