Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Be amazed at one of the world's largest aircraft collections: including 3 hangars of World War II planes, supersonic spyplanes, the world's smallest bi-plane, plus many other unique private, military and commercial air & spacecraft documenting the evolution of flight. Friendly docents augment your visit. Only Pima Air & Space offers the bus tour of the "Boneyard"/AMARG (M-F only, no holidays) plus offers its own tram tour of the museum's 80 acres of one-of-a kind planes daily (additional fees). You can actually touch "aviation history" including "Freedom One" (that flew the American 444-days-in-Iran hostages home), presidential crafts, planes that launched astronauts, delivered life-saving food/fuel, etc. and others with wingspans the length of a football field... Ogle helicopters, MiGs, an Oscar, a rare German buzz bomb, a moon rock and much more. 300 aircraft, 80 acres, 5 indoor air-cooled hangars. Just plane awesome!

This musuem is a real treat for aircraft fans, containing an incredibly broad cross-section of planes from all eras. The hangered planes all feature well-written explanations of the capabilities and history of the aircraft. There are a number of expert guides who are willing to provide further information.

My only criticism would be that the planes outside the hangars are not displayed in any logical order that I could derive and the map is somewhat confusing. They would benefit from culling and better organizing the outside display somewhat and adding better and more detailed descriptions for the outside aircraft.

My critique is a minor one- this is truly a wonderful place and quite reasonably priced.

We took the guided tour with a great volunteer who was retired air force. He gave some great stories about the planes.

We really enjoyes the tour around the plane yard with our guide. He made it really fun and we learned a bunch! We will go again!

If you are a retired military pilot ( Air Force, Navy or Marines), or you like airplanes, this is a must to see. The aircraft in the hangers appear to be in primo condition. The large lot of aircraft outside and exposed to the weather are sometimes a bit worn. However, even the Russian Migs on sight were in better condition then the exhibits at the Russian Military Museum in Moscow.
You can spend all day here, should you choose. I would suggest taking the Tram ride as an extra as it covers most of the outside grounds that could take hours and hours to walk. Even my wife was fascinated by a lot of the aircraft, many which can't be found anywhere else. A stainless steel cargo plane, yes, one exists at the museum. If it's sunny, wear a hat and wear good walking shoes. It's that old gravel that gets into all sandals and becomes uncomfortable.
