A beautiful and interesting part of southwestern Arizona history. This mission is located in what seems to be a very unlikely spot in the middle of the desert. Be sure to participate in the docent tour starting about every half hour or so...it's free and informative. This is something that any visitor should see. An easy drive from downtown Tucson.

We didn't have very much on our itinerary and found out about this in one of the local magazines in our hotel room. We happened to walk in as a docent was starting a tour in the church, so we joined in. No one asked us for a ticket or to pay a fee, so if there was one...oh, well. We did put a donation in the offering box.

just south of Tucson, this mission is an amazing structure and completely worth the drive. This can be a fairly short trip, but check out the gift shop which has lovely and interesting artwork for sale. The Church itself is amazing - a must see.

Truly historic churches are alot less common in the US than the Old World. This mission is a stunning exception with beautifully executed architectural and artistic details. The docent led tour was informative, but as expected well sanitized of anything controversial (there are alot of politics behind the Spanish Mission movement and the rival Catholic factions, you are not going to hear too much about that here). The site is an easy 10 minute drive from downtown Tucson, definitely worth the trip, and the price of free (dontations accepted) cannot be beat!

What a wonderful site. A must see when in Tucson. The detail and historical significance will take your breath away. The mission is located on Native American land so if you're lucky, the locals usually serve Fry Bread...a must try. With either refried beans & the trimmings or sweetened with powered sugar, you'll love this tasty treat as you stroll the grounds and soak in this historical masterpiece.
