“The White Dove of the Desert”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

San Xavier Del Bac is the finest example of a historic mission in AZ. Be sure to get a guided tour if available. The real interest is in the interplay between Catholicism and the native Tohono O' Odham culture: "God is in the details" . A knowledgeable guide will really enhance your visit. This is an active church and a an active restoration. Which means it is a living entity and not just a time capsule. There are a number of shops on the mission grounds were native arts and crafts can be purchased. There were food vendors on site selling fry bread and indian tacos.

“The iconic tourist site in Tucson”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

A little outside Tucson is this 18th Century mission with an interesting history and unique architecture. The interior of the church isn't on a par with anything in Europe, but the exterior makes it worth the trip.

“Mission tour interesting...”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Mission art amazing as is restoration story. Our guide was considerate and knowledgable. Nice hour or so, but so sad that the grounds are unkept with trash cans overflowing and stray (?) dogs wandering the grounds......friendly dogs. Frybread available in parking lot from 3 venders the day we were there. Cheap, ok. The
Mission itself worth the time.

“Wonderful example of artistic abilities in area.”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

This is one of those places that you need to go see because the carvings are fabulous. The fry bread is a tad greazy so beware.
