“Very special place”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

The desert museum is a very special place and a model for what can be done. It crosses the line between being a museum, a garden and a zoo blending into a teaching experience.

There are so many exhibits, displays and special events that we filled 4 hours quickly and didn't have the time to see everything. Go early and put aside a whole morning to enjoy all the events.

The hummingbird display was very special and allowed us to see the calm, relaxed birds up close.

“Captures the area beautfully!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Beautiful well-though out grounds; benches & water w/paved paths. The whole family can enjoy a long walk or short one. Must see: hummingbird/butterfly area and the snake house!! Large gift shop & small café to refresh yourself. Beautiful art museum!

Wish I lived closer and could visit more often. I hear they have a new aquarium too. Highly recommend the restaurant also, many food choices. Bathrooms even have sunscreen available for visitors.

“Great place to spend a few hours”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We learned a lot about animal and plant life in the desert. Being from the East Cost, an interesting experience for the family. Docents very, very helpful with answering questions posed by our teens. Try to plan your visit to be there early in the day or evenings as the animals seek shade as the temps rise. We also did the drive through the Sonora Desert Monument. Awesome cacti to see there as well.
