“A Must See”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

An outdoor wonder. An up close look at the desert and its flora. Great for young children - my 2 yr old grandson had a grand time.

“Not a place to visit on a hot day”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

We didn't arrive until after lunch and it was too hot to go on the trails. We did enjoy the anthropod and reptile displays which were indoors. The bookstore has a wide variety of books and other items for sale. We'll be back, but not until the temps drop back to the 80s.

“It's Really a Zoo--Don't Miss the Hummingbirds & Free Flight”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

This "museum" of living flora and fauna is awesome. The very best thing--the raptor free flight, which occurs twice daily--don't miss it; and hie thee to the lower area by the sign at least 15 minutes prior to the raptor show for the best audio and the best flight effects. The birds swoop right overhead and you can hear the air through their wings! The hummingbird exhibit fascinates too--allow at least half an hour there. If you've never seen javelinas, this is your place--they just lie around in the shade, but you can catch some good views. The docents have lots of information to offer and they share your enthusiasm. It's on the Tucson Visitor Center 2-for-1 coupon book too.

“Extraordinary experience at the Desert Museum”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

The Sonoran Desert Museum, is a combination of museum and zoo for native Sonoran wildlife. They have adapted and changed their exhibits over the past 30 years I have been visited this museum, and have improved over time. There are aspects of it that appeal to all ages, hands on learning for the younger children and lots of scientific based exhibits for the teens and adults.
Go first thing in the morning and take advantage of the cooler weather, check the schedule I believe they also offer evening programs in the hotter summer months. Wear walking shoes, and check for special programs that change each day. The Raptors program is wonderful, and the hummingbird exhibit is an all time favorite.

“Don't miss this!”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This museum is a definite must-see! Thinking I would spend an hour wandering around it, I left over 5 hours later. It was awesome - excellent and varied presentations and interactive displays - a perfect start to a two week trip round Arizona.
