I have played the Catalina course three times, and each time I am impressed. This course gives a little insight into what the PGA players experience everyday. The fairways and greens are perfectly cut. The fairways are so short some of my drives actually spun backwards on landing. The greens are fast, they actually take the break that you see, so definitely play the break, even on the 2-3 footers. The course itself is difficult, but a 90's shooter can definitely still have fun. Good bunkering around the greens, so sharpen up your bunker game.
As far as the staff, I have always had good experiences. The ambiance of the Omni makes it feel really ritzy, but the staff was courteous with no arrogance. The prices are very reasonable, a six pack of beer for the course was the same price as my parent's course in michigan.
The greens fees can get spendy, but look for deals and you can play for around $50 a man.
***I have not yet played the Sonoran course, I believe it is a Fazio design, but I just can't bring myself to play the Sonoran when I know I will enjoy the Catalina course so much. This is where I play when I want to treat myself or visiting friends and family to a nice course from the Tucson area.
