Plan ahead & rent a sailboat - with credentials. No credentials - rent a kayak to explore beautiful Oyster Bay for which a town is named and there are still oysters, clams and mussels.

Gerry,

Glad you had a great experience and hope to see you back this season! For those with no sailing credentials (certifications) but with sailing experience, we do offer day-of rental checkout sails. Please make sure to call us ahead of time to confirm availability and reserve an instructor. Otherwise a kayak or a SUP is a great way to get out on the water.

I learned to sail at the Waterfront Center and found it a welcoming environment for a newcomer. Classes are well taught and the harbor itself so protected from Long Island Sound that it is easy to learn basic skills without worrying about being far from shore or facing waves.
On other occasions I have sailed on the restored 19th century oyster sloop, The Christeen, which is also attached to the Waterfront Center. This is a marvelous experience that engages everyone in hauling sails and even dredging the waters for marine animals.

For the past two years I have Kayaked here when my cousin comes in from Missouri. They have plenty of kayaks to handle even busy weekend days. They have other water sport equipment, if kayaking isn't your sport. The bay is an easy place to kayak. The only bad part is the parking, very limited.

We're excited to hear you've enjoyed our kayaks and SUPs! Last year the parking was tough because of the Beekman Beach closure. However, this year it is open and the parking capacity has more than tripled, hope wed see you back again this year!

We love the waterfront center. We have rented sailboats, which they offer at varying sizes from beginner to advanced. They now have a large number of Hobie kayaks, which we plan to take out next. They offer classes and summer camp. All fees are very reasonable.you should checkout their website and get on their email list.

I have been a fan of The Waterfront Center for many years. My children attended many of their wonderful programs and we rented a sailboat from them. It's an incredible resource. I do not recall whether there is wheelchair access, but would be surprised if there is not.
