“not worth driving out of your way”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

A nice side attraction but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. You can not actually get into the cave but you can see into it. There are also some very nice hiking trails in the park. We saw the sign for it while we were back roading.

“Nice little slice of nature.”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Russell Cave National Monument is a bit out of the way, but worth a stop for those who like to enjoy nature while learning a bit about pre-Columbian natives in the Southeastern U.S. There is a small museum on site, adjoined by a small gift shop. The truly great feature is the Cave itself, which is located a short distance from the visitor center, down a beautiful wooden walkway. The site also offers demonstrations of primitive weapons some days, unfortunately this wasn't offered on the day of our visit due to a lack of staff. Admission is free and the site is beautiful;if you're in the Chattanooga or Huntsville area it's worth the drive.

“Beautiful Park”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We, too, visited the park because of the NPS Passport program and had an excellent time. The cave is large but you can only enter a small portion of it but the area is beautiful. The walkway made it easy for all members of our party to experience the cave and the ranger was very helpful and friendly.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Went to the monument because of the passport program. If you are expecting another Mammoth or Carlsbad, you will be disappointed. However, it is unique in it's own right. As others have said the Native American history is the draw here. The ranger was outstanding and I think he would visited with us all day if we could have stayed. One caution - we were following our GPS which didn't agree with what we saw on our map. Deciding to follow signs instead of the GPS, we soon found ourselves in the parking lot, while our GPS was telling us we still had 45 minutes to our destination. Don't be a slave to technology!
