“Scenic spot and it's free”
Reviewed May 26, 2012

Russell Cave is truly a beautiful location. The grounds of the park are well maintained and the staff is friendly. Upon arriving, i viewed a brief film on russell cave and quickly looked over some of the museum items they had. Then, from the visitor's center, it is only about a 4 to 5 minute walk to the cave entrance. There are good spots to take photos, as well as some plaques detaling some history on the cave. The cost of everything is free. Unfortunately there just isnt a lot to see. Wish they could give cave tours, but signs inidicated the cave and surrounding area was prone to quick flooding. So it may not be possible to do this.

Small, only a little to see and learn compared to other caves in the South.

“Wonderful little park”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

This is a little national monument, but it's a fascinating little roadside stop. I just happened to decide to pull off and I'm glad I did. The exhibits are interesting, and the staff and volunteers are great. One volunteer who wasn't working that day happened to be showing a couple friends around the day I was there. She let me tag along with their group as they walked through the cave and I was amazed at the depth of her knowledge. Perhaps the most amazing thing she told us is that only a small portion of the cave has actually been excavated, but they already found tons of artifacts from every era of North American settlement.

“Russell Cave”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

Wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Park closes at 4:30 CST everyday. They will not show you the attraction presentation (video) if it is close to closing time. The drive into the area/valley where it is located in beautiful, but it's a one way in and out- the end being a few miles up the road in an old mining town that still has it's historic train depot sitting in the center of "town" with a for sale sign in the window. :~}.
