Okay, so the last posted review was from someone who thought this was the East Quoddy Lighthouse on Campobello Island. They are not to be confused! This particular lighthouse is in Lubec township, Maine. It is the easternmost point in the US. If you're anywhere in the vicinity, it is a trip worth making. There is a nice exhibit inside the lighthouse itself.

We visited West Quoddy Head Light twice during our trip to Lubec ME. Once in the afternoon on the way into Lubec and the next morning when we left.

The afternoon visit provided us with bright blue skies and a slight breeze - just like all the professional promotional photos. The setting is very dramatic - you drive into the area and the road drops down to the lighthouse providing a wonderful panoramic view from the parking area.

The midmorning visit the next day found the area shrouded in fog and 58 degrees with the foghorn sounding. The foghorn signal was different than we heard the night before which I assume was due to a different level of fog. The fog just on the water presented a totally different picture than the day before - instead of blue skies we had white everything. We heard a small vessel chugging up the coast toward Lubec but never saw it due to the fog - a treat for landlubbers.

There is a small admission fee which is most reasonable.

Those with a handicapped parking permit can drive down the hill and park adjacent to the lighthouse.

While worth seeing.

Cliffs against ocean, beautifully maintained, steep in some areas but just beautiful. We had the trail to ourselves, what could be better? Beautiful part of our country, lighthouses, whales, incredible fresh food and produce

Go here and take your picture next to the plaque/monument to the eastern most point in the U.S. The red and white candy stripped lighthouse is very interesting and has a nice museum in the attached building. If you want a souvenir (like a Christmas ornament), stop by West Quoddy gifts just off the road shortly after you leave the park gate.

There are so many gorgeous views along the trails in this area. You don't have to walk very far before you're surrounded by the fabulous coast lines that Maine has to offer!
