My husband and I went to Lubec, Maine in August, 2013 and as part of our visit, we went to see the West Quoddy Lighthouse. The lighthouse is a 15-minute drive from "downtown" Lubec, and is well worth the visit.
There is a visitor center, which has an extensive collection of memorabilia about the lighthouse and the area in general. The workers in the visitor center were extremely congenial and eager to answer any questions about the lighthouse.
My husband and I used one of the hiking trails to walk up to the top of the State Park, which was a wonderful experience. It took 15 minutes or so, but the views at several points were breathtaking.
If you're ever in the area, be sure to visit the West Quoddy LIghthouse.
