“The restaurant experience was terrific!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

We had steamed clams, steamed lobster and clam chowder, and it was really good. Actually, we've been coming to Lubec for about 7 years (guess you could say we love the area) and this is the first restaurant we tried that served a decent lobster. The view was marvelous, and we plan to come back to this gem of a restaurant again.

We were looking for accomodations near the West Quoddy Headlight in Lubec when I came across this hotel. It is a former sardine factory, which caught my interest. The outside still looks like a factory but the rooms were a big surprise. I believe most, if not all, face the water, some with balconies and are artistically decorated. You are so close to the water that from the room it's like being on a cruise ship without the seasickness. The chairs are very comfortable for reading. You'd do well to bring a few good books since there is no tv in the rooms or in the common area. The common room is a long open space that includes a few couches, 2 tables and chairs, an outdoor deck and kitchen area. We couldn't take advantage of the whale watch from the hotel because of inclement weather. The room rates as well as the restaurant prices are VERY reasonable. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My husband and I ordered the lobster dinners at $16 each. Delicious. The nearby town is small but cute with a few shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: You have to request a balcony if you want one. Our room did not but the view from the windows were...

This Inn is in a renovated sardine factory, sitting right on the Bay. Great history, great location, good place to stay.

Our room, as most if not all, had a small deck overlooking the water and the working wharf. We also had two comfy chairs in front of the sliding doors to the deck, to sit inside and see the ocean.

Our room was crisp and clean. The floors are tiled and the room decorated simply, which seemed to allow noise penetration. The room we had was across from the office, so at 7am we heard every conversation in the office. The halls are tiled as well and accelerated noise as well.

The Inn has a common area with a refrigerator and full kitchen for use by all guests, as well as tables and a sitting area. Nice touch, especially for bigger groups and longer stays.

Affordable, clean, friendly and efficient staff- all with a great ocean view.

Room Tip: Not near the office.

This is in a way an amazing hotel. The location is great, view on the bay/ocean, rooms are spacious and modern. However, the deck belonging to the room is right above the wharf and when we were there, work continued until after 8pm on a Saturday night and started again at 8am the next morning. As a result: nonstop noise. We had the lobster dinner at the restaurant, which was excellent. Breakfast is not free (as some reviews here claim) and is also served in the restaurant.

Room Tip: The apartments are furthest away from the wharf and therefore less noisy

Reception was good. The room was very clean and spacious. The beds were super comfy. Had an amazing view of the ocean. Extremely well priced. Great location. 2 minutes walk to town. The in house restaurant was great. Supper was fantastic and breakfast was very good. Lots of selection. They have a yoga studio and a small gift shop

I've stayed at the Inn at the Wharf during previous visits to Lubec and always enjoyed my stay. There are a number of reasons I keep staying there when attending Summerkeys (http://www.summerkeys.com): 1) I love the view of the water; 2) the rooms are immaculate and comfortable; 3) access to a full kitchen in the common area; 4) the wonderful freshly baked muffins each morning (a continental breakfast is included); and 5) the owners (Victor and Judy) and staff's friendliness.

I also enjoy seeing the fishing boats docking and unloading their catch on the adjacent dock and treating myself to an inexpensive lobster dinner ($16). When I asked them to leave the ear of corn off my lobster dinner, the server immediately asked me if I'd prefer another vegetable and offered a choice of spinach or asparagus. I chose the asparagus and it was cooked perfectly (and not overcooked).

The only problem this summer was related to the internet...after the power went out the first evening, it was difficult and sometimes impossible to connect. The owners did get some computer techs out the next day and things were marginally better. When I expressed concern about having a reliable connection and that I preferred not to sit in the common room to do my online banking, the staff told me that I could come and sit at a desk in the office if necessary (fortunately I got online from my room long enough one afternoon to take care of what I needed to do).

Connectivity continued to be problematic for the entire two week period I stayed there. Sometimes it would work fine, and other times it would be difficult to connect or if you were connected, the connection would suddenly drop. According to the owners, they've ordered a larger commercial wireless system that hasn't come in yet. I hope it fixes the problem...in previous years, internet connectivity wasn't a problem. Having a reliable connection is a necessity in today's world, especially in Lubec (due to its remote location, many cell phones do not get a signal, and thus cannot be used as a wifi alternative).

We arrived here later then expected, therefore got the worst room. It was right on top of a working dock which work began promptly at 6am. There was no privacy on our deck, however the view was beautiful. It was bit expensive for what it was, uncomfortable bed and Ikea chairs. It was very sterile, not rugs, was not very warm. Had no AC. Low water pressure in shower. The restaurant there was disappointing, it will be worth your while eat someplace else. Service was almost non existent.

Room Tip: Get there early or else youll end up in a bad room.
