“Very nice property, great value for the money”
Reviewed November 5, 2010

I stayed at this hotel as part of a conference from Nov 1 thru Nov 3. The hotel is located right in the heart of Providence across from the state capitol and a block away from a nice mall, so the location is perfect. The hotel is in an old renovated building. The renovations are very nice. The hotel is nicely decorated with a beautiful lobby.
The service is simply outstanding. The first person I met at the desk upon my arrival was Emily and her service was outstanding. My check in took no more than 3 minutes from start to finish. I also met an event manager from Brazil and she was very courteous and friendly. It is obvious that the entire staff takes great pride in the hotel.
My room was large, well decorated and spotless clean. The bathroom was also large and very new looking with great amenities. The bathroom was spotless as well. The beds are comfortable with great linens. The 32" HD LCD TV with all HD channels was also very appreciated.
This is a very good choice for anybody visiting Providence. It is a top notch hotel without top notch prices. I travel in excess of 400,000 miles a year and I feel safe in saying that this hotel would be considered a five star property almost anywhere. I highly recommend it to anyone travelling to RI.

We often head to Providence for a weekend getaway and typically stay at the Westin. However this time around we decided to stay at the Renaissance due to the good reviews and pictures of the property. The great: valet, housekeeping, and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful; the property is very nice, well kept and a bit unique...it also feels new; the location of the hotel is great and the room was quiet and large. The not so great: the roomservice food left a bit to be desired for - the late night menu for example. The choices were very limited so we ordered two sandwiches. Instead of a typical room service "service" we received two refrigerated sandwiches and two bags of chips in a paper bag. Entertainment wise, there was no bar except for the restaurant in the basement level. Here we felt that the service was poor in that the bartenders were slow and didn't seem to care much about the patrons.

All in all a very good stay but a bit lacking on the food and beverage side. Good news is that its a stones throw from the heart of downtown so if you don't mind a short walk you have plenty of food and beverage choices.

I stayed at the Renaissance on business and on the whole would reecommend the hotel.

First the good stuff. The room I had was HUGE. The bathroom was nearly as big as some hotel rooms I have stayed in. Mirrors in sensible places, proper hairdryer, comfortable bed, proper ironing board and decen iron, good gum much larger than most hotel gyms) and location close to Providence Place for a spot of shopping (it's open to 9pm!). There are taxis outside the hotel - and taxis in Providence are not that easy to come by!

However, some gripes, The walk-in shower compeltely flooded the bathroom floor. Needed several towels to mop it up! The aircon clicks on and off all night - kept me awake. Breakfast was delivered in room 30 mins early and the order was wrong. Room service dinner was on time but the food not great. Chowder was bland, salad dressing too lemony. No water bottles in the room and no mini bar. No bath robe. $10.95 per day for internet access. One coffee sachet for the machine per day...

So on the whole I'd recommend it but really these issues should be dealt with...small points but they really do make a difference to your experience.

Classy hotel in the heart of Providence. Check in was smooth and quick. We got a room on the sixth floor. A robe and some chocolates on the bed greeted us. This room is so colorful with the colors of blue and gold heavily draped curtains to the red striped wallpaper in the bathroom. His and hers recessed lights above the bed. The room included a safe, frig, and two free bottles of water. The most surprising feature was the closet space with two doors - one door by the room and other one at the bathroom. You could walk thru the closet to get to bathroom. It is nice feature to grab your clothes from the closet while in the bathroom. I prefer to enter the normal way to bathroom which had these French doors. Overall, A comfortable and clean room.

I did not try the restaurant/lounge on site. I did go to the gym and it is really impressive. Everything is brand new and modern. There are green apples for you to take by the gym entrance. There is a lounge for Marriott members but it was closed on Saturdays and reopens on Sunday late afternoon.

The only downside was the valet parking fee of $26. There are many valets working and you call from your room to get your car because it takes a few minutes for them to retrieve it. The valets were really great as they ask if you needed directions as you receive your car. You are across the street from the Providence mall. If you have a car, drive to Federal Hill neighborhood, and go park at Atwells ave. A lively main st of restaurants, bars, and shops.

Beautiful hotel, extremely helpful staff. I was placed next to "party central" and realized I wouldn't get much sleep. So I asked to be moved and they did so right away - right after security took care of the situation. Everyone....from the doorman at the Temple restaurant, ton the front desk, to the security employee were gracious and helpful. A good hotel takes care of you when everything runs smoothly. An excellent hotel takes care of you when something isn't right. This is an excellent hotel.

I visited the Renaissance Providence Hotel for a business trip. We were travelling about 75 people. The hotel was perfect for the group. There wasn't one thing that went wrong. The rooms were beautiful, beyond clean and very comfortable. Our dinners were wonderful. Everything was handled with professionalism, perfection and care. I can not say enough.

Hotel was right across from the state capitol. Small lobby, but attentive staff. Clerk recognized my elite status with Marriott and asked me to wait a few minutes while she found a room with better view. Bought us a drink while we waited. Used restaurant for breakfast only, but servings large and split a yogurt/berries/granola with wife and had plenty. Nice amenities in a small room, attractively furnished. Rates very reasonable to me for this, only $189 a night. Slight negative: valet parking $26 a night, and with a tip, you are looking at $28-30 a day for parking. Overall, however, 5 stars.
