Travel often and without a doubt the best place to stay in Providence. Spacious well appointed rooms, excellent location, great restaurant and an outstanding staff. From Stephen and Amy at the front desk to Mike at the Temple bar and to everyone else here – Outstanding. Will return soon.

Beware: this hotel overbooks! Your reservation is not guaranteed. Even with a credit card. I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights and when I checked in the manager said sorry the guests in my rooms weren't leaving and they could not ask them to leave. Incredibly stupid thing to say. Of course they can't say, we've overbooked and your room was given to someone else. They said they made reservations for us at another hotel which is what they are obligated to do if they overbook. If they did this to me (and I've been a guest there before) there is no assurance that they would not do the same to you.

Thank-you again for your feedback. I truly appreciate that you felt it necessary to write and post this review a 2nd time. Trip Advisor removed it the first time based on your description of our hotel, which is out of guideline, and obviously not an accurate depiction of our hotel or what occured during your visit. I would however like to clarify again that we did have a number guests who requested an extension and we accomodated them. We made this decision because on any given night a number of arriving guests do not show and cancel their reservations balancing out these extensions. Unfortunately, this did not occur and I do apologize that this impacted you. As we are continually rated #1 in our market on Trip Advisor for our service standards and business execution, I can assure you that we honor our guest's reservations and our commitment to them and that this was an isolated incident.

This hotel, while part of the marriott chain, feels like a quaint hotel. The hotel staff are well trained and customer focused, from the valet greeting you and understanding when you're in a rush to small personal notes that they write to ask how the restaurant you asked about was. Their rooms are well appointed and very updated, the bathrooms are very chic, and people greet you when they see you. They also have a concierge floor with great breakfast in a rush and a great restaurant on the bottom floor. I only get dissapointed when the hotel is booked! as I travel there for business and would stay there on a vacation as well. It is also well located in downtown Providence and next to a pretty big mall in case you forget something.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the capital side are better otherwise you're looking at buidling industrial ro...

My son and I went to the MLG (Major League Gaming) world championship in Providence and stayed three blocks away at the LOVELY Renaissance Providence. It is truly charming! Within walking distance to many shops and restaurants, and also its own Temple restaurant /club downstairs. I knew I was in for some spoiling when I called down to the front desk and it was answered "hello, Ms. Holmes!" Then in the morning there was not one but two handwritten notes; one wishing my son good luck in the competition. Personal touch!

The awesome beds and feather pillows alone are reason to come back; but I think Providence in the summertime will be even better; with more boats, trolleys and tours open. I don't think you will be disappointed in this gem of a hotel. Every employee took their roles very seriously. Bravo Renaissance!

Room Tip: I had a handicap access room so it was ROOMY and quiet.

We stayed here for one night with another couple, our last night of an 11-day trip in New England. The interior is beautiful, and gives you the feel of early 20th century history. The rooms were plush and very comfortable. Staff (parking valets, bellhops, check-in, bartender, etc.) were friendly and service-oriented. They were able to get us a reservation on a Friday night at one of the better Italian restaurants on short notice. The bar downstairs is lovely. We didn't try the restaurant for dinner, but the size of the crowd would indicate that it's a favorite with locals. Parking is valet only, and the parking area at the hotel entrance can get pretty crowded with cabs, etc. The hotel can be a little hard to find---just remember that it's right across the street on the west side of the beautiful state capitol building.

Room Tip: Try to get a higher room with a view of the State Capitol.

This is a great hotel. The decor is lush and modern (think deep jewel tones, not neutral minimalist) and incorporates its origin as Masonic Temple (that was never completed) as well as the dilapidated state the building sat in prior to the renovation. What am I talking about? Just little touches that recognize the the grungy, arty side of Providence, like a picture of graffiti hanging on the wall in your beautiful marble bathroom. It was so unexpected, yet totally works! Our room was on the top floor and was very large, as was the immaculate bathroom stocked with first class Aveda products. We did not have a 2-sided closet as noted by a previous reviewer, it was normal. Temple, the on-site lounge and restaurant had a GREAT breakfast buffet with made to order omelettes and mini belgian waffles. The staff was very friendly. The location is great for downtown Providence -- just a short walk to Providence Place, the convention center and the train station. I will definitely stay here again.

My husband, two children and I stayed here for one night to explore Providence after a few nights in nearby Newport. The hotel was originally designed as a Masonic Temple Building but construction was halted in 1929 when money ran out. The building sat vacant. for decades until approx. 4 yrs ago when it was restored and converted into the Renaissance. The building is beautiful and we enjoyed reviewing the original blueprints displayed on each floor.

A special thanks to Amy of Guest Services who arranged for an amazing spacious suite. Our kids' eyes lit up when we opened the door to our room and saw that it was actually two rooms with a direct view of the Capitol Building. Amy also delivered a hand written note wishing us a nice stay which is the type of old fashioned service we rarely see. Very impressive and appreciated!!!

When we return to Providence, we will definitely stay at the Renaissance.
