My family and I stayed at the Hotel Providence for one night (a Wednesday) this summer and were delighted with our experience.
The room was small, but clean and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable, the shower warm with the perfect water flow, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We especially appreciate the help of the doorman on duty 8/13/15 in the morning. My 8 year old needed a pair of scissors and the doorman helped us out, chatting with him the entire time.
The valet service was great....car was always ready within minutes. The valets were friendly and helped us with directions. Worth the additional price.
A lot of people's reviews complain about the noise. We experienced absolute quiet...maybe because it was a weeknight and the church's belltower was being repaired.
We would definitely stay again.

Dear Amy O,

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay with us. Our team prides itself on solving problems and taking care of our guest's (jr. guests included!) needs. I'm glad we were able to provide scissors for your son. Also, thank you for your kind compliments regarding our valet staff- they're the best in the city! We hope you will come back and visit with us again soon.

Warm regards,

Beautiful room. Nicely restored hotel. Noisy all night with people running and yelling in street. Restaurant in hotel looks beautiful but service and food is poor. Would not stay here again. One plus was that it was convenient to show at Performing Arts Center.

This has been our second stay at this hotel, both while attending a performance at the Providence Performing Arts Center. I can't say enough about the staff, from Matt and Patrick who helped me make the most of my reservation to the other supporting staff from the front door and desk folks to kitchen and wait staff. Our room was immaculate, with a classy upscale vibe, and comfortable bed.

The biggest reasons for a 4 star (would be 4.5 if given the choice), were two things:

1. Light shines through the junction of door and jamb very brightly. We had to get creative to block out the light.

2. There are several bars/nightclubs in the immediate area. I know that this is the city and some noise is Inevitable, especially on the weekend, but last night was the worst night in any city we have ever visited, including New York and Boston. 2-3 o'clock in the morning heralded the arrival of several high-performance motorcycles and their reckless drivers, revving these bikes to maximum rpm's for long moments before throttling them back down, prompting cheers from drunken revelers. Where were the cops?? Apparently, earplugs need to be included along with the complimentary soap and shampoo. What can this hotel do about it? An immediate call from the front desk to the police at the first sign of this nonsense would be a start. They had to have heard this last night without being prompted by hotel guests. That noise would have penetrated through an underground bomb shelter.

Perhaps our next visit should be during winter when the bikers and drunks are more likely to be off the streets.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the two main streets.

This is a beautifully updated hotel. Great beds. Convenient to downtown, bus station, Providence Place Mall and many great restaurants. Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks also close by. Pinchy the Lobster was really cute.

If you want any peace and quiet, at least on a weekend, then choose another hotel. The noise from the club on the second floor is deafening and permeates the hotel. We feel the beat through our floor. When we called the front desk to inquire, of course there was nothing they could suggest. Although it has the appearance of a lovely old hotel, and markets itself as such, this is not what we bargained for.

Dear Andy C,

We appreciate your comments and apologize that the music from our weekend entertainer spoiled your stay with us. Going forward, controls will be put in place so that acceptable noise levels are not exceeded. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I sincerely hope that you will return. We work hard to maintain our reputation as an "urban retreat" and we would like another opportunity to show you the restful, yet lively, hotel you were expecting.
