I have stayed here monthly for last 6 months for business. I love the location and old but classy feel of the hotel and the restaurant is quite good. So that's why I stayed. But I am finally moving hotels. There are always minor, but time-consuming inconveniences with each stay (rewards points are never booked, bill slipped under the door was not zeroed-out, phone at desk is not answered, elevators clank next to the room). Most frustrating is the effort it takes to make a reservation. By phone it is sloooow and by computer it gives me error messages. Unlike other places that keep your information on record, each and every time, it takes me 15 minutes to listen to the clerk slowly type in my life history.

My girlfriend and I booked a two night stay at the Hotel Providence based off the solid reviews, location, and affordable rate. We were initially impressed with the upscale decor but our stay went from good to worse very fast.

Our room was located on the 2nd floor of one of two separate wings of the hotel. This side of the hotel faces an alley and an ugly brick building outside out windows. Our room was quite large and the bed was extremely comfortable. However, the room was lacking a adequate dresser & the marble bathroom floor was ice cold. We literally could not stand in the bathroom without some footwear. Also, the bathroom was poorly lit over the toiler and towel rack.

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is located next to a cathedral. At 8am and every 30 min after, loud bells are rung that are impossible to ignore.

After a long day of sightseeing and eating, we arrived back in our room around 11pm and started to get ready for bed. We were welcomed to our room by a mouse who ran across the floor! We immediately called the front desk. Instead of sending someone up right away, we were asked if we wanted to change rooms? Of course we did!

A hotel staff member came up to our room and seemed amused by our findings. On top of that, he neglected to bring up a bell hop cart. Keep in mind, we were being moved 4 floors up on a different side of the hotel. He then went back to the lobby to retrieve a cart while we waited in our pajamas. After 10 minutes I called the front desk a few times and no one answered the phone! When you are fed up & tired, an unanswered front desk call is incredibly off-putting. Finally he returned and moved us. Good night!

The next morning we received a phone call from the hotel informing us that our car had been broken into overnight. Some thief smashed our window but fortunately nothing was stolen. We did not leave anything valuable in sight.

The hotel had already called a glass repair shop and was on top of it. However, we were paying $26 a night to valet park our car! Apparently, the cars are parked on a street level lot (not a secure garage), a block from the hotel. Incredibly, no member of the valet or hotel staff is watching the cars after midnight! $26 a night adds up and but we were willing to pay assuming the cars were being watched and in good hands.

The hotel removed both nights of valet parking charges and paid for the window repair. Additionally, they comped our breakfast in the hotel restaurant. We appreciated that response and were able to continue our plans for that morning.

End of story, we would never stay here again. The hotel did not even offer to comp our room or offer a percentage off, considering we had a mouse in our room. Bad customer service all around.

Dear Valued Guest,

I sincerely apologize for your recent experience at our hotel. As soon as I became aware of the situation I responded immediately by moving you to another room and reversing the charges for your entire stay. Unfortunately, because you booked with us through a third party channel, it may take a few days to process.
Although infrequent acts of vandalism do occur in our city, as you mentioned, our contracted valet company was on top of the situation and repaired the glass immediately.
We are always concerned when our guests are disappointed with their stay. We hope to have another opportunity to provide you with the service we have built our reputation on and that you deserve.

Best Regards,
Tom Fitzgibbons
General Manager

We booked two rooms for a wedding and our experience was lovely. Convenient location and the staff accomodated our request to check in a bit early. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and clean. We would definately plan to stay again. Much better than a chain hotel, it had real charm and warmth.

While the room was indeed very nice, I doubt if the AAA ratings people who bestowed the 4 diamond honors actually spent the night. The walls are paper thin and we heard every gory detail of our next door neighbors evening, late night, and early morning sexual escapades. Even their post romance, normal voiced conversation was audible in our room. The manager was somewhat apologetic but offered no compensation. Overall it was not a good experience for my family and I will not be back.

We spent 2 nights at the Hotel Providence. The rooms was very clean and well appointed but small. Considering we really just used the room for sleeping, it wasn't a big deal. It is very well situated but the room was noisy. We were on the 5th floor - at about 6 am on Saturday morning, it sounded like a garbage truck was directly outside our window. There was also a lot of street noise from nearby bars in the night. Too bad!

Room Tip: The higher the better.

At these prices, one would not expect stained seat cushions. One would not expect cigarette burn holes in the bedskirt and carpeting. A group of young people were having a loud party down the hall, horsing around and yelling in the hallway. Since they were probably from a nearby college, this may be a frequent party destination. The room was cramped for the price, and did not feel clean.

Room Tip: There is a church next door, it's bells chime on the hour and half hour, seemingly between 8AM a...

this is the best hotel in Providence!! Beautiful rooms, the best mattresses!!! The staff are wonderful. Bar and restaurant are great, with a view to the terrace - good jazz in the summer on the terrace, nice to watch the snow falling in the winter. And, you can bring your dog!! Hotel Providence is always my recommendation for people visiting the city.
