“Wickenden St. Atmosphere, Odd Presentation”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

We love Wickenden St. restaurants for the quirky atmosphere as much as the food. Taste of India was fine for atmosphere and service. We ordered the Chef's Combination for Two, which was good food and more than enough of it. First was a delicious, creamy red lentil soup. Next came three samosas, which was odd for a meal featured for two. The pastry shell was flaky and delicious. The filling was nondescript. Then came the rest of the meal - served in a compartmentalized metal tray. It looked like an overgrown TV dinner or maybe something from a prison. The chicken curry and lamb dishes, along with the chicken tikki were all very good. The mound of rice in the middle was done just right. And the scrumptious rice pudding was there too, along with a yogurt dressing for the nan that was served separately. There were eating utensils strategically placed in the dishes so you did not have to use the same item for the rice pudding as the chicken curry. If you can ignore the presentation, the meal was well-prepared and a good value.

“Decent buffet for all the basics”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

Did a saturday lunch buffet.
Decent selections of all the basics:
Tandoori chicken, chix tikka masala, something like palak paneer, but instead of paneer they put potato. Rice, naan, vege curry, kheer. REally good apetizer dish with chips, chickpea, tamarind sauce, forgot what its called, it was next to the salad.

Slightly spicier than the selections at Kabob and Curry (who also fancy up their buffet to a point, you dont get the basics). But tasted a bit watered down. Not in a really bad way. I should say a bit lighter. Ate a lot and did not feel stuffed.

Looks like it comes down to preference based on other reviews. I would go back again, but feel that Kabob and Curry may have better quality. Nice to have a thrid option for Indian, Kabob and Curry, rasoi and now this place.

Oh yah, costs $1 more than other places, and they charged me half price for my 4 yr old, who eats a tandoori drumstick and some rice, where-as Kabob and Curry had never charged my son for eating same thing.

“Arrogant, Rude and unfriendly staff and pathetic food.”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

My friends and myself visited Taste of India in Providence on our way back from Newport during Memorial day long weekend for lunch. We ordered some vegetarian dishes and some lamb biriyani and lamb kabab. This was the worst biryani I have ever tasted in my life and could not eat more than a spoon from the whole plate. When we told the staff that the biryani was not good and could not even eat a spoon of it, the lady was ignorant and just said oh ok and gave a 10% discount but had charged me for the biryani which was much more than 10% discount.. When I asked why am I being charged for biryani, they said you tasted some of it , so you are charged and its not my problem that you did not like.
It was totally a worst experience of Indian food ever.
This place served pathetic food and has very arrogant and rude staff. Never recommend anyone to go to this restaurant even if you ever run out of options for food.

“Tasty Treat!!!”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

Took a family member here for Mother's Day and as always we enjoyed it!! We each had something different and tried each others dishes and they were awesome! There was a belly dancer the night that we went so it was really fun to watch her dance and it was different. The smell in the place is wonderful. You also get the feel that you are stepping into someplace that is very different. It is a great dining experience! The only down side is the parking, you might have to drive around a few times before you find a place

“Average Indian food Experience”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

As a student in Providence I have had the opportunity to sample all Indian restaurants in Rhode Island.
I have to say Taste of India was the most average experience so far. Not only is the buffet average but even the taste is very altered.

Overall, a visit only if you can't find a place in another Indian restaurant in town!
