Great GREAT local watering hole - favorite of RISD/hipster types (who are easy on the eyes), excellent often locally-sourced food CHEAP - limited menu, but all one really needs - and great bars on both floors. If Margaret is on the bar downstairs, try her invention, the "Gingered Gentleman" (if you like ginger-flavor) - it's yummy! I don't entirely trust the other bartenders to QUITE be up to her standards, but she's a goddess, and they're all cool. Only bad food I've ever had here were the ill-advised Szechuan pig tails - AVOID...truly nasty - it was just a bad idea...but everything else is great! Fun local art on the walls, both floors, and, hey, what's not to love about a bar with great beer on tap that was playing the Sex Pistols' "Bodies" the first time ever I walked in with pals....

Fantastic!

Fabulous drinks, unusual food selections. Dark and cool. For the most part it is for a younger crowd, but the artists and the hip are always welcome.

All the food was really good! Great hummous with nice grilled bread, a terrific plaintain appetizer, nice salad, and tasty cornmeal crusted bluefish. The "cheap wine" special was a great bargain, and tasty. It's a tiny little place, and there's a very limited menu, so you have to be willing to go with that. But everything sounded great, so I had no trouble finding things I wanted to order. We sat at the narrow communal table and had a very nice time. Our server was pleasant and accommodating. All in all, we had a great little dinner at a very reasonable price. It's a bit of a hipster-ish place, perhaps, but we were a couple of 50-somethings, and we felt perfectly at home.

Although mysterious, because it doesn't even have a sign outside with the restaurant name, their food is always great. If you like cheesy food - this is a great place to be. The lighting is usually low, so don't worry about looking to fancy. The casual atmosphere is fun for a date or a night out with friends. Make sure to order the hummus with pita bread.

The Red Fez is located in the heart of down town Providence. Its small, has about 6 tables, and one large table that can seat 8 people. The atmosphere is cozy, dark and kind of arty. Based on the name of the restaurant, you would expect more ethnic foods, but I think the menu is more creative-comfort style foods. The menu is limited, it has about 7 entrees. But all were delicious. I couldn't find their website, so based on memory, we had the following: For starters, little neck clams in a heavenly broth, greens salad, and pigs feet. For entrees: Mac and Cheese with Chorizo, Flank Steak, Fish, Chicken. All were creatively prepared and very good. The service was attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. They also have an assortment of "fancy" cocktails. We were too full for desert, but the house brewed coffee was great Best of all, the price is very reasonable (between $11 - $18 per entree). Portion sizes are large enough where you could go without an appetizer. They don't take reservations. We had a large party, got there at 5:45 and were seated right away at the big table. There is plenty of parking right outside either on the street or at a lot. I would recommend this place. Its our second time eating hear and will definitely be back
