My husband and I tried Viva Mexico Cantina Grill after seeing a show at the PPAC yesterday. We saw their advertisement in the playbill and decided to give it a try. We were immediately seated as there were only a few other patrons eating at the early hour of 5:30 on a Saturday night. I was excited to see a long and diverse menu. It made my selection tedious but in the end I stayed with my tried and true Taco Salad with pork. My husband had the tamales.

You must order the chips & salsa as an appetizer, they don't come complimentary. However, the salsa verde that accompanies the chips is worth the extra cost. Our food came quickly and was prepared as we requested. I must admit though, I was a bit disappointed with my salad. The fried tortilla was shaped such that there wasn't much salad in my bowl. It was enough for a meal but I always have left overs...except this time. The pork was spicy but it didn't look very appetizing as it was cut in small cubes rather than shredded. None-the-less the food was good. The tamales came three to a plate and my husband could not finish his food. He enjoyed it but wasn't too happy that there was a sour-cream drizzle on the top (he hates sour cream).

We decided that we would eat there again if in the area but would not drive specifically there just for dinner.

Finally a Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island that is serving creative and authentic Mexican food. There is great Guatamalen and Peruvian options in town but unitl this place, no where to get a great mole sauce. The owner told us that they are even shipping it to NYC and selling it there from a store. Its not cheap but its not a super expensive place either for the quality. I have eaten here twice, including once when we were in a lunch rush and they got us our food quickly. the other time, we chatted with the owner and took our time. both times the service was gracious. Downcity has some good restaurants but not many quality ethnic choices. I will eat here often because we have offices across the street. Cuban Revolution, you have worthy competition!
