Owner description: WaterFire Providence is an independent, non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. This award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.

“That was cool!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

The weekend we were in Providence happened to be one of the weekends when WaterFire occurred. We walked around downtown early on Saturday and saw people blocking off streets and getting things set up, including the water fire spots. We didn't eat from any of the vendors or restaurants as we had other plans for dinner and then came back into downtown for our scheduled gondola ride. One thing to note is that parking can be kind of difficult to find and if you are not familiar with the crazy streets in Providence (narrow streets, short blocks, easy to miss the street signs, etc.), then finding parking when it is dark can be challenging, so plan ahead accordingly. It was fun walking along the pathway/riverwalk. It was fun to watch the boats come back and restock the firewood.

“We enjoyed waterfire.”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

It was a very relaxing evening walking along the river, seeing all activities going by RISD and Brown. The music was lovely. Afterwards we walked over to Federall Hill. Federal Hill is a disgrace.I can't believe all the Italian food. Don't the people in Providence eat anything other than pasta or pizza? Thankfully we were only in Federal Hill for about 30 minutes. It is very unappealing area which attracts an unappealing crowd.

“Water and Fire”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

They set up bonfires along the river. Many activities went on at the same time (charity stuff, etc). The music was great and the whole experience was mesmerizing. They have food trucks everywhere. When I was there, there was a parade of boats carrying colorful fish lanterns. It was very beautiful. You have not experienced Providence if you haven't been to Waterfire.

“Boring”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

This was the second time I attended and I am not a fan of this event. Too many people, too much noise and rather boring overall. Just not my kind of event. Food options are pretty good.

Pretty cool for about 20 minutes. Then it just depends on enjoying the weather if it is a nice night.
