Owner description: One-hundred-fifty store mall that is home to New England's first Nordstrom store.

We recently moved to Rhode Island and this was our first trip to the mall. We were looking for a nice evening out and decided to head to Providence due to the water fire presentation and we were on the hunt for Halloween costumes. Parking was a fiasco due to its location in downtown Providence. We were unable to find the entrance to the mall's parking lot so we parked at the convention centers parking. HOLY COW parking cost us $15.00 for the evening (approximately 3.5 hours). From my understanding the mall parking costs was a little better but who makes you pay to park at a mall?! There were HUGE droves of people walking throughout the mall and there were a number of teenage kids roaming the mall. We were not impressed by the stores of the atmosphere in the mall. We walked into a few stores and we were flabbergasted at the snotty attitudes of the store workers. We do not recommend the mall if you are looking for a relaxed or upscale shopping environment. There are definitely other and much better places to shop.

The Providence Place Mall was touted as an upscale mall when it was first built. The city and state leaders worked on the philosphoy build and they shall come, once. When we moved to Rhode Island in 2000, We went once then did not go back for years. I go once a year to see how many empty stores they have after Christmas in January. Providence and Rhode Island itself have not come of out of the recession from when Jimmy Carter was President. The state of Rhode Island sold munibonds to get a developer to build this structure. The mall has become a hangout for teens, gang members on weekends and evenings and homeless during the days. There have been numerous incidents of violence against families minding their own business and fights between the gangs or teenagers. It is a place to avoid. If you want to shop go to Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro.

Probably one of the last major projects that will happen in a while for PVD or RI because of the economic state they are in. They have so many other things to focus on. BUT when this was built this was a big deal.. There is a LOT of kids hanging around that come in for all sides of the city and make shopping not that much fun. The mall is nice with rugs and nice food court but its a mall.. Nothing overly impressive but the Nordstroms.

Several floors and a nice variety of shops and restaurants--many different from what we have back home, which is what we were hoping to find. I'd go to the mall website before heading out, though, to check the hours. A parking garage is attached to the mall--receive a ticket when entering, then pay at a machine inside the mall before leaving. It gives your ticket back to you, then you have 15 minutes to insert it into a machine at the exit.

Of all the places in Providence, this mall was the typical place for anything. Quite a large built-up area. Has awesome views of the city from the top floor and also houses an IMAX cinema!
