Kids especially will find the eeriness of the hotel so amazing, I promise you that they will not care much about much else. Taking the ghost tour? Definitely.
The rooms vary in quality, but they all tend to be clean...especially for such a historic building!
Estes Park is such a beautiful town...and it's nice to be able to stay there in such a large, yet haunted hotel.
If you can afford it, this hotel is definitely a must-do.

We booked a Deluxe King Mountain View and was surprised to learn we were uprgraded when we checked in. The only bad thing I can say about the hotel is that there is no air conditioning. The room did have a ceiling and ocelating fan, along with 3 windows that opened. With the cool mountain breezes it wasnt too hot though (we stayed August 30, 2012). The hotel has so much history. We also went on the 6pm Ghost / History tour which I would recommend. Definately would a stay / visit if you are going to be in the Estes Park area.

Room Tip: The smaller sized rooms are TINY! We saw a standard room on the tour and they are cramped - dorm ro...

This was our first time in Colorado, and we came here because of the history of the hotel and it's proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park. We were not disappointed. We spent 3 nights here. Our room was facing the courtyard which has a waterfall, it's a little noisy but you get used to it. The room was spacious, flat screen tv was huge, bathroom was very clean and modern. The king size beds have pillowy soft mattresses that you just sink into when you lay down. We had no need for air conditioner, it gets chilly at night and it's nice to snuggle up in the feather duvet when it's cold. The hotel is very close to town, and just a few minutes to the marina and park. The restaurant, Cascades, saved us twice since we didn't know everything closed so early in town (hard to find something open past 9 pm!) We also came back one day to be greeted by a herd of elk! And as far as ghosts... We did get a few mysterious doors shutting and orbs in the hallways. The fourth floor ha a really creepy vibe (we stayed on the third) and after sneaking up there on our last night, i couldnt sleep. All in all, it's a beautiful hotel, full of history. It is a little pricey, and there are cheaper hotels in town, but I think it's worth it to stay in one of America's great lodges.

Thank you for your feedback! We do have a sleepy little town- which I learned as well upon moving here! We are pleased that you had a wonderful time while you were here, we are fortunate enough to be very convenient to all attractions in Estes Park. We hope to see you again in the future!

Such history, built in 1909. Our room was large, clean and had a perfect view. We even saw a large male elk out our window the first night. Restaurant food Leaves a lot to be desired (stick to the starters), but don't hesitate to say at the hotel! However, that sai, our room needed a new mattress!

Room Tip: We had a deluxe king, room 234, at the front with a great view!

Thank you for your recent visit, we are glad that you had an enjoyable time! Unfortunately through tripadvisor I am unable to back track your exact information- if you would be kind enough to reach out to me at mlauzon@stanleyhotel.com regarding the mattress, we would love to fix that issue. Thank you!

I read some of the negative reviews on the Stanley before going there. I expected the room to be old, uncomfortable and hot. I am glad I did not reconsider staying there because it was an awesome place to stay. The view is priceless and the atmosphere of the place isn't something you will find at any chain hotel. We were on the second floor in the main hotel (there were a few complaints about the heat on the 4th floor) and the room at night was as cool as if there was A/C on full blast. The hallways also had good air flow and were kept cool during the day. At the time we stayed, in August, it reached into the upper 80s during the day. The hotel experience was all that I expected from the time I entered the lobby. Room 205, where we stayed, was very clean and nicely furnished like an old hotel. The bathroom was updated, but retro looking in a good way, and the walk in shower was huge. The toilet was in a strange spot against the wall and required some limb contortion to use but I suspect that had something to do with a 100 year old building being retrofitted. We took the night tour and it was enjoyable but I think they try hard to sell these ghost stories. There are a lot of crazy people flashing cameras around room 217 and the lobby (at one point people were flashing cameras at me thinking I was a ghost) but they clear out around 11pm and it was quiet at night. The only suggestion I would have would be to add a big hot tube somewhere with a mountain view. Estes Park is beautiful and I hope to return to this hotel again in the future and wouldn't be opposed to spending some time there in the afterlife when it's free.

Room Tip: The second floor was not hot at night in the summer

My family and I had a wonderful experience on the "Ghost and History Tour"!! Our tour guide was so entertaining! Cathy was very pleasant and knowledgeable, Her enjoyment and pride shined as she told us about the history and then intrigued us with the ghost stories! I would HIGHLY recommend her as a tour guide as she is absolutely delightful. She recommended eating at Cascades at the hotel and we were extremely happy with yummy meal also!! THANK YOU!

We were fortunate enough to stay in the recently remodeled Manor section of the Hotel - the Manor property was fabulous with inviting lobby areas and spectacular front veranda with excellent patio furniture and million dollar views... but that was not the best part of our experience. The best aspect of our stay was Midge, the outstanding Inn-keeper of the Manor. Midge does it all, she makes sure that your stay is an experience with her homemade pastries every morning, wonderful attention to detail, and beautiful friendly personality... highly recommended, get to know Midge!

Room Tip: Be advised that this is a historic property and is not air conditioned - just open the windows durin...
