I love this hotel...it is where I fell in love with Colorado! There are several reasons:
1. The views: The views are simply stunning! Huge mountains, beautiful rock formations, elk wandering on the green, the lake. It is beautiful.
2. The porch: One of my favorite things to do is to sit on the porch of the Stanley and relax with a good book, chat with friends, and enjoy a hot chocolate from their cafe or a nice glass of wine from the bar. So nice in all seasons.
3. The history: This hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Hotels and there are unique features from days gone by from the chain flush toilets to the Stanley Steamer car in the lobby, and the original elevator. This gives the hotel tremendous charm and is fun to explore!
4. The location: This is in the town of Estes Park which is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. One of the most spectacular places you'll ever visit. It is easy to get to town, the lake, the golf course, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, and the highlight...the park!
I highly recommend a stay at the Stanley if you are going to be in Estes Park. It is worth it!

Room Tip: I like all the rooms...there are a couple of different buildings-be sure and ask for the size of the...

Apparently the patio seating area had been short staffed, so it had taken a while to acquire service. Then we met Jerry. He was one of the best servers I've been in contact with. Excellent jokes and a fantastic experience. He turned our dining experience around. Thanks Jerry. We'll be back.

My friend booked a room and ghost tour for a us for a girl's weekend. The tour was interesting and a lot of fun. We had a room that opened to the patio, and the wedding party that was going on was quite loud even past the the said 11pm quiet time. The most disappointing part came when we ordered room service for breakfast. My (overpriced) tea selection consisted of several green and herbal teas. I prefer a black tea. When I called room service and asked for some, they brought up one bag of Chai tea. I can't imagine that European visitors would consider that a breakfast tea.
When we mentioned this at check out, the deskclerk responded with "Maybe they didn't have any". I was too appalled at her response to even suggest that they take the charge off our bill for some undrinkable hot water...

It was a nice place. Interesting old things to see. We didn't take any of the tours they offered, simply because it's ridiculously expensive, even though we got to listen to parts of the things that the tour guides were telling.

It's might be true that Stephen King got the idea for his book "Shining" while visiting this hotel but he didn't write it there, and also Stanley Kubrick didn't make any of the scenes there. The only relation to any movie is apparently with the "Dumb and dumber".

Yet worth to visit. And I liked that how open they are to people who are there just to see the hotel. I'm not sure if the guests like it.

As a frequent RMNP visitor, I've always wanted to stay at the Stanley, but couldn't justify the price, considering we spend most of our time in the park (up before the sun, back around supper), but after grabbing a living social deal, we finally got the chance!

Bottom line, this is a great hotel, but the bang for your buck isn't there at the normal room rates. The room was small, but updated and inviting. The tour guide for our tour was exceptional, and the food in the restaurant was tasty (but again, expensive. For two, we spent well over $100).

The biggest downside is the popularly of the hotel. We returned one night right before a wedding and it took 15 minutes to get through the gate. Also, during the day, there were people everywhere!

This is an amazing historic hotel in a beautiful setting with nice rooms and I highly recommend taking the tour (just make sure your reservations are correct ). But at $300 A night its not worth the cost to stay there. I guess because of the whole Ghost thing and Shining stuff is why they charge so much. But there is not much luxury in the rooms as far as amenities go. No coffee, no hair dryers ,no Air conditioning and the rooms do get hot in July. It did cool down around 2 am but till then sleep was hard to come by. The shining was not filmed there or written there so don't let that pull you in. The idea was just formed there after a night of drinking lol. As for ghosts no one has ever passed away in the hotel. The stories of kids ghosts running in the halls makes no sense because of that. And we got nothing by way of any haunting other than tour groups outside the door every hour lol. so don't pay the high price for that. But if its just the the historical part of the place and beautiful setting that draws you in and you can get a break on the price by all means stay and you wont be disappointed. I also highly recommend the restaurant it is a bit pricey too but was it oh so good! The Gnocchi pasta was to die for. And our server was amazing!

A great place to take a honeymoon! The food was wonderful, the service is great, the whole place is beautiful. If you get the chance, go on a tour. The ghost hunts are a great time! Request carl as your tour guide, because he is the best!
