Hotel looks nice and fancy but is lacking in basic in-room amenities ie coffee pot, air conditioning, etc. It was so hot i couldnt sleep till 4am. I would not stay again.

We are sorry to hear that the lack of air conditioning in our historic hotel was an inconvenience for you. Typically at this time of year, opening the window to let in a little of the chilly mountain air is enough to cool it down. We are also able to supply our guests with fans to circulate the air throughout the room.

My family and I stayed at the Stanley Hotel over Thanksgiving break. The historic character of the century-old hotel was wonderful, yet our room was nicely updated with new furnishings and bathroom. Minor note- why have a large flat-screen tv but not have it in HD? Oh well- we didn't watch it except for some of the Shining. However, while our 2-year-old daughter slept through the movie, she woke up around midnight and bumped her head. While the bump wasn't bad, she descended into a bit of temper tantrum. We did everything we could think of to quiet her down, including taking her out to our car, but hotel management was kind enough to offer us another room to get her away from nearby folks she was disturbing. All staff were very helpful and understanding. Thanks!

Room Tip: 4th floor is noted as the spooky one, but we didn't notice anything but our noisy daughter.

My wife and I stayed for a night and had dinner. The view from our room, particularly the sunrise was beautiful and the "ghost" tour we took was fun and full of history

While the stanley is charming on the outside, it has a lot of short comings. Clearly the focus is on the history and the "hauntings", not so much on customer satisfaction. We paid(months in advance) and requested the main hotel but we were but in the Manor house off to the side with very poor accommodations. We heard every sound from the room above us. The room was tiny with no place to even set my purse down other than the floor! The next day we did find one helpful employee. She was able to get us a better and slightly bigger room in the main hotel. I understand that the hotel is old and that is some of the charm but even the over priced Thanksgiving dinner was less than average. I will not stay at the Stanley Hotel again or recommend it to anyone.

We are sorry that our historic hotel did not live up to your expectations. While we are proud of our rich history, we certainly want our guests to be satisfied with their visit first and foremost. We are happy to hear that one of our staff members was able to assist you in making your stay a little more enjoyable. We have stayed at the Stanley several times, and we love it. Of course, it is the hotel that inspired Stephen King's "The Shining", but its' history is more complex than that alone. Mr. Stanley was a very bright guy that invented several things, including the Stanley Steamer and the predecessor to Kodak film. Make sure and take both the historic and the ghost tour.

We have always found the staff to be pleasant and accomodating, the rooms clean, and the food at Cascades, the onsite restaurant, delicious. The grounds are lovely during the summer, with patios, pool, spacious front porch with rockers, and the outside dining area, complete with fountain.

The only caution I have is that this is an old hotel. It is well maintained, but it is certainly not a modern luxury hotel. As long as you know what to expect, I am confident your experience will be a pleasant one.

What a Grand Hotel.. You must do the Ghost History Tour since this is a Haunted Hotel and has so much history and star quality. The renovation of this hotel really shows well , our room was small but cozy with creaky floors and all..
Our next favorite experience was Jimmy(from Baltimore) as our Bartender. For being so young he really embraces his job and makes the night entertaining and he is so knowlegable of the drinks and his fine liquor he has the pleasure of serving.
Later in the evening as the tourist leave and the fireplaces are going, this old hotel takes on a whole new face.. you must walk around and enjoying the quiet grandeur.
The staff could not be nicer and more helpful.. It was a lovely night
Thank you for keeping the Stanley as she should always be remembered..

Room Tip: This is a old Hotel.. the rooms have been renovated so the room is very nice with very comfortable m...

We just went for one night on November 22, 2011. The hotel and room was excellent and very clean. We stayed in room 208 with two queen beds. The room played the original Shining movie 24/7 with Jack Nicholson. Dinner was amazing but very expensive. Service was a bit slow. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The ghost tour was good, but it was more historic than ghostly. However, during the tour and also after, that night, we went exploring ourselves. Our pictures taken on two different digital cameras showed tons of ghost orbs! Be sure to see the cave in the basement. Try to walk in a little ways and then have someone take your picture just as you come out. I had approx 24 orbs on me when I came out. I was disappointed to learn the original movie was actually not filmed at the Stanley Hotel. Stephen King stayed there in rm 401 and wrote about his experiences there. He sold the rights to Warner Bros who didn't think Estes Park got enough snow, so they filmed in England (that's where the maze is) and the outside of the resort (The Overlook Hotel) is actually in Oregon. King was furious and it took him 20 years before he could purchase the rights back. There is a mini-series filmed later that was filmed at the Stanley Hotel. Ghost Hunters stayed in room 217 where a glass shattered all by itself.

Room Tip: If you want to book the most haunted rooms, 401 and 217, you have to book about 2 yrs in advance. I...
