As lovers of all things nature and kitsch, I wanted to stay in the Stanley as an homage to Stephen King, and my boyfriend wanted to be near Rocky Mountain National Park. The hotel is beautiful, historical, and located in a perfect spot to tour Estes Park and go to Rocky Mountain. The only drawback of being in a 100+ year old hotel in August is it's not air conditioned! Our room had a slanted ceiling (which I love), but this blocked the air from coming from the window to the bed. So it was a little hot at night. But we enjoyed the ghost tour, ate in town to save money, and appreciated the helpful and knowledgable staff.

Room Tip: We asked for mountain view, and ended up in a small room with a tiny window. Make sure you like the...

Our room was on the east, front side of the hotel facing the western mountains. We had two windows in the room and a huge bathroom. Our room last year was over the front porch looking out the front but it had a very small bathroom. We were able to watch two weddings from our room. The only problem with the weddings on the front area of the hotel is that you are not allowed to sit on the front porch to sip your cocktail and watch. We had a great time.
The only problem we had was we had paid fro a premium room and was given the key to a very, small, side room. Whem we checked with the front desk, the problem was rectified. So, if you have never been there before, make sure you get what you paid for.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor facing the front lawn.

The only reason I didn't give it all five stars was the elevator was down during our stay and we were on the fourth floor. The ghost tour was well worth the money and the guides were knowledgeable and interesting. All in all, I would recommend the Stanley to anyon who asked!

Room Tip: This is where "The Shining" was filmed (at least parts of it), room 217(I think, I've...

This historic property is a real treat, especially in the summer: beautiful gardens and stunning views, lots of places to sit outside to enjoy that Colorado sunshine. One evening a herd of elk wandered over to the east side of the hotel, and we watched the young calves racing around together like they were playing tag. Our bed was VERY soft, our room was very clean every day, and the staff were friendly. We were also here last October and slept with our window open to hear the elk bugling. There is so much to see at this hotel, plus things to do in Estes Park, not to mention the whole world of the Rocky Mountain National Park just down the street.

Came here for a birthday and to visit RMNP. The grounds and personnel were great. Room upgrade was really nice. Had view of sunrise, mts and the lake. Missed having a coffee maker in the room. The walls, door and floors are thin and this makes it difficult to sleep.

Not complete without a good ghost hunt but if one is not available the you is a must. Also try the bacon infused bloody mary from the bar.
