As lovers of all things nature and kitsch, I wanted to stay in the Stanley as an homage to Stephen King, and my boyfriend wanted to be near Rocky Mountain National Park. The hotel is beautiful, historical, and located in a perfect spot to tour Estes Park and go to Rocky Mountain. The only drawback of being in a 100+ year old hotel in August is it's not air conditioned! Our room had a slanted ceiling (which I love), but this blocked the air from coming from the window to the bed. So it was a little hot at night. But we enjoyed the ghost tour, ate in town to save money, and appreciated the helpful and knowledgable staff.
