“Pure Heaven!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2010

This place is PURE HEAVEN!!! Just 5mins away from the Estes Park hub, it's adequately secluded but quite accessible to the post office, restaurants, gift shops, hiking trails and more. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating but they also respect one's privacy as needed. There's a playground for kids but adults can also tap the child in them in the swings, slide and sand box. The cabin is clean and well maintained at no extra charge. Elk roam around freely and the vista is breathtaking! We vow to rent a cabin here every year after such an awesome experience!

After reading so many positive reviews, I was really surprised at the Grand Lodge. I was expecting a cozy, relaxing retreat, and instead, could not wait to go home. It was so disappointing to be in beautiful nature and hear non-stop traffic noise.

Rooms:
-Tiny with barely any room for suitcases (if you have a sleeper sofa, you have to arrange it sideways just to use it and cannot access one side of the room)
-Beds are not comfortable
-Two downstairs bedrooms have no windows
-Upstairs rooms have really small private bathrooms with no place to put a toiletry case besides the top of the toilet.

The grand room has horrible fluorescent lighting and wall-to-wall green carpet that would be so much better if it were wood flooring.

The layout of the bathrooms is strange. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with private bathrooms, so you have to walk through someone's bedroom to access it. Downstairs has three bedrooms without private bathrooms, but two side by side bathrooms instead.

An outside fire pit would be a great addition.

We did not know this guest was unhappy. The believe the person making the review was not the one who made the reservation but one of the 22 folks attending the gathering. Evidently this person did not research our place like the one who made the reservation.
We have a full description of amenities on our web site including number of bedrooms and number of bathrooms plus pictures of the inside and outside of the Lodge including bedrooms and the 4 bathrooms. We have had Amberwood for 38 years and have had no complaints about the lighting or beds. We upgrade mattresses periodically and we have fan lights across the ceiling with individual slider switches. We also have fluorescent lights built into the ceiling switched separately as we have scrap booking and other folks who require additional lighting. The Lodge is set back about 150 - 200 feet from the highway and we have had no complaints about road noise. I believe this person wanted a lodge with bathrooms in each bedroom and maybe a 5 star place. We are sorry she was not happy staying with us.

My wife and I along with 4 teenagers stayed at the Columbine Cabin for 4 nights and it was a great stay. The place is very well cared for with no unwelcome smells or sights...felt like a friend's cabin rather that a rental. Newly remodeled bathroom was dandy.

The owners were super nice folks and were at the ready to help with anything. This included getting us back in the cabin when we locked ourselves out! After using the charcoal grill one night for dinner, the ashes were magically gone by the next evening. And yes, we also saw the Black Bear getting into the dumpster one evening, the teens thought that was the best thing ever.

The location is a scenic road halfway between RMNP and the somewhat over-busy Estes Park town. Perfect for our daily excursions into the park. I guess my only complaint was the lack of more (or larger windows) int the cabin. This made it hard to bring in the cool night air (after the warm afternoons heated up the place) and you can't see the beautiful outdoors as easily as you might like. But, I would retun since this was a great value and very well run.

17 people ages 6 months to 83. . . Amberwood was a great choice, convenient to Estes Park (could walk to town) and RMNP. We stayed in the "Grand Lodge" with 4 bedrooms and indoor space for the children to play. Kitchens had adequate pans and dishes for cooking meals. Seeing a bear at the dumpster during dinner was a highlight for all! Our hosts were delightful and very accomodating.

Great Getaway!!! Cabins in the woods.
These accommodation were great. The cabin we rented was conveniently located to our destination, Rocky Mountain National Park and was very spacious and clean. There were seven in my family and the cabin provided everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and added to the pleasure of the stay.

If you are traveling in this area I highly recommend this as a place to stay.

This was such a nice place. It was spotless and quaint. Included a living room with a sofa, TV, and fireplace, full kitchen and dining area. We stayed in the honeymoon cabin and it was perfect. Very close to Rocky Mountain National Park. Bighorn sheep were just outside our door and the park ranger said they hardly ever come into the park, that they prefer to stay right there in that little canyon right outside the park (where Amberwood is). We loved it. Very quiet. The owners are the nicest people, and completely took care of anything we needed.

We loved it so much we want to go back with several couples and stay there for another great vacation. I absolutely recommend staying here.

We chose this place sight unseen based on TripAdvisor reviews and booked one of the cabins for the first few days of our trip. The cabin was tidy and had a nice view, but my 6'2" tall husband felt that it was a bit small--had to turn sideways to move between rooms. The full kitchen is a good choice if you're planning to eat most meals in, but we used only the microwave, fridge and coffeemaker so it was more than we needed.
We hadn't booked the remainder of our stay because we wanted to see in person what else was available. After we looked around Estes Park pretty thoroughly, we realized we liked Amberwood's location and low-key atmosphere best, and we asked what they had available for the rest of the trip.
We ended up on the second floor of the even less-expensive motel-style Sunday House, and we were very pleased. It is a great value and also has a microwave, mini-fridge and small coffeemaker. Like the cabins, it has a fireplace. They provide wood for the cabins and a Duraflame for the motel room.
We sat on the balcony morning and evening. That's how we got to see the only black bear of the whole trip--it rambled through the lawn of the condo/motel across Fall River Road, crossed the pretty creek and came right up beside our building before climbing the bouldery hill behind us. Awesome.
We got a discount for staying here more than a full week, making it an even better value.
Dave and LaNelle were very helpful and personable.
There are three main motel concentrations near the Rocky Mountain National Park--on U.S. 34 east of Estes Park, U.S. 34 west and U.S. 36. The east area offers a splendid view but is farther from the park and most motels have a difficult entrance/exit through highway traffic. The U.S. 36 area is convenient to the park's main entrance but also the most touristy-seeming, and we were glad we hadn't chosen a motel here. We thought U.S. 34 west (Fall River Road), where we did stay, was the best choice for going into the park every day to hike or look for animals at dawn/dusk.
Amberwood is right off the highway, but from the cabin where we stayed we couldn't see or hear the road. We saw only the river and unobtrusive condo/motel across the road. From the Sunday House balcony we did see the road, plus the river, but it didn't turn out to hinder our enjoyment of sitting outside.
It's a nice place to stay.
