“If you like the smell of fabreeze masking the smell of mold stay here”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The web site made the place look half way decent so we booked the last three days of our Colorado trip at Sunnyside knolls. The place, specially the bathroom probably hadnt been remodeled since maybe 1972 or 73. The bathroom fan was just slightly quieter than a jet engine. But the reason we left after just one night was the over powering chemical toxic smell of Fabreeze.

The bathroom was so 1973 creepy we didnt even take showers the next morning just left as early as we could. I saw a previous post that said they go into the jacuzzi tub after a long hike....too gross to even consider.

My recommendation for estes park would be to visit in an off season and stay at one of the chain hotel. It seems that these old resorts just dont want to put any money back into the properties... for at least the 25 years.

For the $131 a night or at anyprice this was one of the worst room we ever had.

We ran into the maintenance guy that evening cause our shade wouldnt close and he said he has to take Benidryl cause the Fabreeze smell is so strong.

We were in Estes Park August 8 which was the peak of the season and all the other place were booked or over $200/night so we didnt have a choice to move to someplace else we could afford so we just left the area. We were looking forward to a couple relaxing days of hiking in the area but the room was just so bad we chose to leave. The resort did refund the two days we had reserved but didnt use.

Room Tip: sleep in your car

We stayed here in 2000 and based on that decided to spend a couple of days here again (unit 11). On a positive, it was really nice to come back to a Jacuzzi tub after an 11 mile hike. On the downside - The bathroom fan was VERY loud and there was only one switch that turned on the fan and light together. There were no cups in the bathroom. There were cup lids by the microwave, but no cups there either. The mini-fridge was in bad shape - the bar that held bottles in the door was missing (there was some duct tape), so any attempt to store things in the door was useless (we attempted to store water bottles there). The temp control was missing and the unit was frosted over. The ceiling fan had an annoying thumping that was audible when trying to sleep. And they advertised WiFi, but you could only get it when standing up by the office. The place appeared worn and in need of maintenance.

We have stayed here several times over the years because the cabins are cozy, its quiet & they accept our pets. This was the first time we stayed in a hot tub room & it was different due to the unit being in the living area next to the fireplace - room did smell of chlorine but that was expected. Had some nice rains during our visit which really cooled things down at night. They have new owners so its run differently, less amenities in the rooms, etc a bit less clean as well. However the front desk folks were helpful & nice. May look elsewhere to stay next time. Best wishes to the new owners!

Room Tip: Pick a cabin with the hot tub outdoors - better to stargaze at night then have the tub in the room

Great little cabin, nestled between the road and a mtn. 1 bdroom cabin with living room and kitchen. Not one negative to report, service was great. When we arrived we opened all of the windows to see an Elk standing 5 feet from our room. Our 3 yr old daughter loved it. Would go back in a second and stay longer next time.

We have been coming to Sunnyside Knoll Resort for many years now. When we first started coming it was a couples only resort. The old owners were great people, and were very friendly. The new owners are equally friendly. We have always enjoyed the people at the resort. We consider this resport "our" place when ever we come to Estes Park. Honestly we won't go anywhere else.
We all know that the economy has been rough for quite a few years now. So things being a little run down are to be expected. The rug aound our spa was jagged and detached in places. The bathroom needs some serious updating. The sofa is very uncomfortable, the old one in the unit we were in was much more comfortable. The bed headboard was falling apart a little bit. All of these things would not cause us to complain. We enjoyed our stay, we felt at home, and we came away relaxed.
What I will say is this. Owners, if you read this, this is the second year in a row that we have stayed in cabin 5. We love it, but your house cleaning people need to do a better job. The spa tub felt dirty, I cleaned it myself. The cute little fabric shutters in the kitchen are caked with dust when you close them. There is a very thick layer of dust on the window frame in the bathroom. There is an extra blanket on the garment shelf in the bedroom area that smells musty. Thick spider webs are on the celing fan pull, and on the dismantled speakers in the spa tub area. All of the typical things like sheets, toilets, the sinks, the floors, are all clean. What I am talking about is deep cleaning type of things. What I will say, is the things that are dirty are exactly the same things that were dirty when we stayed there last year. The spa tub shot out black specs when the jets were used, so we just didn't use the jets.
We will still come back, but we are hoping that this being pointed out will help get the cleaning staff doing its job better.
Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Room Tip: Cabin 5 is hooked up to cabins 1-4 but because it connects to the kitchen you are unaware of the peo...

This was our third stay here - the owners are terrific & the cabins are so comfortable. We stayed in Cabin #9 with our 2 dogs, they settled in before we did :). Wood fireplace & outdoor hot tub were both amazing & really enhanced our visit this time - since it was in February, it was still cold & snowing but so beautiful. We'll be back to do some hiking in the warmer months but this property is a great place to hide out for a few days in the winter. Owners provide coffee, popcorn, hot chocolate & DVD/VCR rentals - very accommodating & friendly folks. Kitchen had everything you need to prep your own meals however no oven available - didn't need it - we used the propane grill located a few steps away in a nice covered area. Definitely a new favorite spot in Estes Park & we are hooked.

Room Tip: Quiet cabins that even face the street

My wife and I re-lived our honeymoon experience by returning to the Sunnyside Knoll Resort for our 25th Anniversary. We enjoyed the privacy of the secluded Cabin #18. The spacious deck, BBQ grill, kitchenette, in room hot tub and roominess of the accommodations were phenomenal. We will be back for years to come.
