“Exactly what we were looking for!”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

We stayed at Brynwood on the River in cabin #24 Zimmer Frei from July 18-July 23, 2011. Family of 4- Myself, Husband, Daughter (age 12), and son (age 8).
Office Staff - very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. We arrived very late on the 18th, after the office was closed, but our key was left for us on the office door so that was no problem. One outside deck light was burned out when we arrived, when I checked in the next morning and mentioned it to the owner, it was replaced within 15 minutes. Also very helpful about restaurant suggestions, directions to our horseback riding excursion, and helping me locate a laundry (right down the road towards the park on the left). On checkout they printed our boarding passes for our flight and gave us excellent directions back to DIA.
The Location/ property- well kept, the Big Thompson river runs right on the edge of the property, there is a small swimming pool at the front of the property (we didn't use it so I can't comment on water temp) that is well maintained, situated in an excellent location on Hwy 36 just minutes from the Beaver Meadows entrance of RMNP (no having to go through traffic in town) or in the other direction from Elkhrn Ave and Downtown. There is a small grocery store/liquer store/gas station/laundry complex just a couple of blocks down the road toward the park, Coffee on the Rocks (excellent coffee and blended coffee beverages) is just a short distance toward town, The Sundecker Restaurant (excellent trout, the "fruits of the Forest" pie is awesome) and The Other Side restaurant are also very close by. There are a few shops, outfitters, and fishing suppliers right on 36 as well. We did see several mule deer and rabbits on the property. The river was running VERY high so I did not let the children get too close alone, but there were some seating areas down by the river.
The Cabin- our cabin had plenty of room for the 4 of us. It is decorated in a German Chalet theme. The living room had a fold out couch, television/dvd player (plenty of cable tv channels), and the wi-fi signal was strong enough for us to use the internet on our laptop with no problems. There was a large window over the couch that has a mountain view and you can also see the hot tub on he deck from his window. The kitchen area had adequate amounts of dishes, cups, utensils, pots/pans, silverware, etc. Housekepping changed the garbage bags daily. There was a 4 seater table and chair in the kitchen area with a large window that looked out over the deck and river. There are 2 bedrooms, 1 with 2 queen beds and 1 with 1 queen beds, both have nightstands, large closets with 5 or 6 hangers and chests with 4 drawers. Beds were firm but comfortable, pleanty of bedding available for the pull out in the living room. The bathroom is small but clean, the toilet and tub are separated from sink and mirror by a door, which helps with dressing. There were travel size ameneties and clean towels left daily. The deck is very large, has a side view of the mountains and a great view of the river. There is a picnic table with benches and a couple of chairs. The hot tub was very clean and easy to operate. I really like the lifter for the top so you don't have to struggle with getting the cover off, even my 8 year old could do it with no problem. There are extra large towels in the office that you can pick up for after the pool or hot tub.
There is no AC, but if you open the window and blinds and leave the ceiling fans running the cabin cooled off by nightfall, it was unusually hot for Estes while we were there, but there was always a breeze coming in from the river.
Overall- excellent cabin for a family of four, great location, well kept, housekeeping was excellent, loved the river and mountain views, LOVED the hot tub, and the owners/office staff were very friendly and helpful. I would reccomend Brynwood to anyone!

Room Tip: the motel and cabins that are pool side are much closer together and to the highway, I would suggest...

The experience at Brynwood was great.
We stayed June 3 to 6 and are still here now. The people are very friendly, nice and full of answers to all your questions. My family is Mom, a 20 year old daughter, 18 year old son and me Dad. The kids were not sure about this trip and the hotel experince simply enhaced the trip. The river rushing by in the background and the sound of rushing water for me washed away the stress of work.
The rooms were clean, the fireplace was fun, the amenities were perfect for us.
The highlight was a bull elk in the back yard day one followed by mule deer walking pass the cabin. My daughter woke up to look out her window and see a mule deer outside grazing. My son went out the door and up the hill to watching them casually walking by and continuing to graze. For a Dad to see his kids full of smiles and actingly likw kids again is priceless.
The nice family breakfast after all the animals walked pass, the cards at night, and no TV controlling us and the kids updating their face book page due to free wifi merely enhanced the experience.

Room Tip: Check all the rooms and find what fits you.

During my road trip in Colorado I stayed in 5 different hotels, this was the priciest, and the worst.

My girlfriend and I simply got suckered by the idea of a "Love Nest", as they call the cabin we chose. The name sounds great, but the room isn't. When we arrived we couldn't believe we were paying nearly 200 bucks a night for it.

-The whole decoration is tacky AND dated
-The "fireplace" barely has any fire in it, and a timer that switches it off every 15 minutes (you have to start it again and again).
-The jacuzzi is so noisy it became a running joke, basically you can't use the streams and relax; you feel like you are in a flying fortress.
-The bed had ONE blanket on it that was probably bought in the 60s.

All in all, a room I would be glad to pay 70 bucks for, but not 180+. Quite simply overpriced and undermaintained.

The surrounding area isn't anything special either, at least not in January with the river completely frozen.

Give this one a pass.

We were just a little surprised at this review with THE LOVE NEST being our most rented cabin year round with rave reviews! I will address some issues that have been resolved. The jetted tub needed a new motor, now it is much quieter! The blanket had been purchased the previous July, but there should have been an extra blanket in the closet area. As far as the river being frozen...well, we'll have to take that one up with Mother Nature...it was February in the Estes Park! Sorry you were dissapointed in your stay.

The Brynwood was awesome! We relaxed, fished, read, shopped, and walked a ton. The service was great and all of the employees were super kind and accommodating. It is close enough to home, but far enough that it felt like a vacation. We LOVE the Brynwood and would highly recommend it to anyone. We can't wait to go back.

Our family of four, our kids are 11 and 5, LOVED our stay at Brynwood! Our 2 bedroom cabin on the river was one of the cleanest rooms we've ever stayed in. Our kids liked that our fireplace was wood-burning so they could roast marshmallows for s'mores. I liked that I had a full kitchen to cook in...our budget liked that too. Our private hot tub was very clean and really good-sized!! However, the definite "hit of our trip" was Brynwood's outdoor pool area! The pool was so warm and best of all...clean! (Clean is a big deal to me!)
The staff was very nice and helpful and the location was great! It was exactly what we were looking for and are already planning another trip for this year!

Brywood is a good place to stay, as it is close to town & shopping or dining and also close to Rocky Mountain Park. The cabins are cute as each has a different decor. Some cabins have fireplaces as well. The love nest is truely awesome as it has a hot tub on the deck which provides pure relaxation on cool evenings. The swimming pool is always a comfortable temp as well as the spa located there in case your cabin doesn't have a hot tub,,, not to worry. We have stayed here several times and will come back again I'm sure.Be sure to stop at the Donut Shop located down the street for their famous cream cheese cinnamon rolls, get there early as they sell out quickly.

We just got home from one of the best vacations! We relaxed by the river and got to see deer and elk drink out of the river right by the cabin we were staying in! The leaves are gorgeous right now and the elk are bugling...we even saw a fight by two mails. We loved our cabin which was very clean and the beds were comfortable! We love the different theme cabins and were able to look at several while we were there. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Well worth the money and we will definitely be back!!!
