“Have loved Baldpate Inn for many years.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

Have loved the history of this wonderful old inn for a long time. In fact have read the book "Seven Keys to Baldpate" where the name was derived. After all this time I had the joy of eating here this August 2012! Yes, it is a salad bar, soup and muffins and breads and desserts..certainly enough to satisfy anyone...and yes, it was delicious!

As we sat by the window, with lace curtains, we watched humming birds come to the feeder as we ate. Just delightful! The Key Room is a must! Not to be missed! Even a key to Mozart's Wine Cellar. Someday would love to stay there.

“Pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

Our kids suggested dinner at the Baldpate Inn so we took up their suggestion. The menu was a simple buffet, not my favorite format. Essentially there's a salad bar (great blue cheese dressing), home made muffins (excellent corn bread), soup, and homemade pie. My wife and I split a rhubarb pie and a peach pie. Both were excellent. But the kicker was the Inn itself. Built in 1917, it's located high above Estes Park (translate that to an excellent view). It's like going back in time.
We also attended a free lecture after dinner on the history of the Inn and descriptions of a few of their keys for their collection of 60,000 keys hanging from the ceiling of their "key" room. The owner is delightful. Truly a wonderful experience where we'll bring our friends.

“Unique experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

We went as a large group and were received with friendly service. The food was good and plentiful. Be prepared that it is soup and salad only with breads and dessert. This is what keeps the place unique. Had a delish soup and some cornbread type biscuits. The rhubarb pie was good but the rest of our group raved about the chocolate pie so I wish I had ordered that instead.
Great idea to share some of each other's food - that way you get to taste more than one! Great place to go and just have a great time.

“Would have liked to have lunch there ....”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

My husband, myself, and our 14 yr. old daughter went in for lunch abt. 2:15 on a Tuesday. We stood around for a while, then asked another customer if we were supposed to get our own table. She replied that a "hostess should come out". We went into the restaurant, seeing ALOT of empty, clean tables. We waited some more. Chit-chatted w/ another guest for a while, then finally went back into the restaurant and asked a waitress about getting a table and some service. She said that a "hostess should come out". FINALLY, a hostess came out and asked if we had a reservation. Learning we did not, she informed us that since it was so "crazy" there, it would be a 30 minute wait. What?!? The place was easily 1/2 empty!! It took us 15 minutes to find out that we would need to wait 30 minutes!! Apparently, a 1/2 full room is deemed "crazy". Needless to say, we left.

BaldpateInn, Manager at Baldpate Inn Restaurant, responded to this review, August 25, 2012
We thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Although it was very disappointing to hear your concerns, it was good to be aware of your experience. We do strive for the best service at all times for our customers and it does seem we did not provide that service for you when you visited. Please know that we designate wait times because we want our customers to have nothing less than outstanding service. There may be empty tables, but we will only seat at them if we have adequate staff and feel we can offer exceptional service. Staffing is always a challenge in our service business and one of the reasons we encourage advance reservations to better assist in our planning.

“Historical and Special”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

This is one of those one of a kind restaurants. It has a unique key museum to go through while you wait; the setting is an old stage inn that has been around for nearly a century; the views from the porch and restaurant are to die for; and the staff come from all over the world. It is basically a very interesting soup and salad bar with home made desserts that you must make room for! The soups change every day (one veggie and one meat) so we call ahead to find out what the soups are for the day, check with our picky people to see if this is what they want, and then make a reservation. We try to go early so we can get a table on the porch overlooking the hummingbird feeders and the views of Estes Valley. The whole experience is very entertaining, healthy, and reasonable in price.
