My wife and myself found this gem on our last trip to Estes Park to celebrate our anniversary on 11/19/2011 thur. 11/20/2011. The cabin was warm and comfortable, the people were so friendly. The day we checked in we where greeted by a Bull Elk eating out of the bird feeders, he later visited outside our cabin to clean out the other feeder also, got tons of photo's. The property is very close to the park and just a short drive to Estes Park for anything you need. The next morning we were greeted by a cute little Fox outside our cabin who hung around for so great photo's again. Mcgregor has everything thing you need and a lot more than the hotel chains down the road. We will be back next time we coming thur. this way again. Thanks for reading Tim

Clean and cute cabins close to one of two park entrances. Price seemed a bit steep and rooms were a bit tight.

This is an amazing place to stay. Just got back from our 4th stay at McGregor and can't wait until we can go back. The rooms are clean and homey. Very comfortable. Each cabin or room has its own patio, chairs and grill. Wonderful to sit outside and watch the wildlife or enjoy the scenery. The wildlife at the lodge is amazing. We were greeted by the most beautiful fox who stuck around for a while so we could take pictures. Moments later we were greeted by a large bull elk. There are chipmunks, hummingbirds, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, elk, numerous types of birds and even marmots. There are bird feeders by each room. The lodge is about 3 min away from RMNP entrance. Close to the town but far enough away to feel like you are staying in the wilderness.
The owners - Michael and Chris are so friendly and helpful with whatever you need. Susan is absolutely amazing, so friendly and kind. The main lodge has chocolate chip cookies,(my husband loves the cookies!), coffee and hot apple cider for those cool mountain mornings. Staying here is like a home away from home. We will be back again and again. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else while in Estes Park!

We have stayed here fall, winter, spring, and now summer. It just seems to get better. Friendly proprietors, very clean premises, lovely cabins, and a great location. We will be back.

Two tips:

1) Cell phone service is spotty at best. Verizon, AT&T, and Alltel do not work at all. You will need to drive back into town for service.

2) Wireless Internet is available, but is slow and unreliable. This is the one area we would like to see improved. If it were, we could stay a full week.

We've stayed here several times, usually for our anniversary. We pick a different unit (cabin) each time and it is always a fun stay. The people are the friendliest and most accommodating people you will ever meet. The units are appointed beautifully, each with a kitchen, dining area, TV with DVD player, deck and chairs to take in the scenery and more. The elk, big horn sheep, deer and, yes, chipmunks feel just as much at home on the grounds as you will. In town you'll find specialty shops, a plethora of dining possibilities, local attractions and Rocky Mountain National Park.
We're planning a family reunion here this year or next, depends on the rest of the group.

We first visited the lodge summer of '08 and have wanted to return since. When given the opportunity to getaway for Christmas this year, we chose a quiet mountain holiday and thought of nowhere else but the McGregor Mt. Lodge.

From the moment we arrived our cabin (thoughtfully decorated by a real Christmas tree with lights) we felt like it was home away from home. Our Cabin (10A & B) was warm, comfortable, and included everything we needed for a 5 day stay with kids. The kitchen has everything you need for modest cooking, the bathrooms are new (even a jet-tub), the beds are comfortable, and the views are amazing. The location is fantastic: 1 mile to the Fall River entrance of the park, 5 minutes to town (shops, restaurants, and Safeway), and 10 minutes to the main park entrance and the road to all the winter fun like snowshoeing at Bear Lake and sledding at Hidden Valley.

While there may be more "modern" locations to stay, the McGregor has carefully retained a more comfortable, family-friendly "mountain lodge" feel - almost a retro-50's feel without being "old". It sits up from the Fall River road and you never hear noise, it isn't crammed in next to another property like those down on the river. The personal touches that the owners give to the lodge are the icing on the cake...beautiful Christmas decorations and lights all over the property, wood delivered every day for your fireplace, sleds for the kids to play in the snow, hot cider and cookies every day (which our 9 year old loved), and visits from the good-natured and friendly lodge dogs Daisy, Tanner, and Alex put a smile on our faces every morning...plus ready-make playmates for the kids.

The grounds are beautifully kept and abundant with wildlife - deer, birds, and even the "resident" elk Lefty, Brat, and Little Boy...you can't imagine how amazing it is to wake up, raise the living room blinds, and see a 900 lb. bull elk staring in your window while he treats himself to a snack from the bird feeder. Just down the road from the lodge we saw more elk, bighorn sheep, fox, deer, coyotes (not the scruffy city ones)...and incredible views of the park.

The rates are very good, especially considering what you get for your money and the personal attention you receive (or, on the flip side, if you want to be left alone, you can be assured you won't be bothered). You can log onto the free wi-fi, enjoy satellite TV or use DVD's in each cabin, rent showshoes, or even hot-tub. You can hike right behind the lodge if you don't want to trek to the park, enjoy the views from your patio, grill/BBQ, or just do nothing. We love the lodge, the staff, the dogs, and can't wait to return (already hoping for summer '11)...have some fun - skip cold emptiness of a time-share or the risk of a cheap/cheesy motel and treat yourself to a home-away-from-home trip to the McGregor - in any season!

Made our second trip here in two months, and both stays were excellent. We stayed in cabins 3 & 6, and have nothing but good to say about the lodging, staff, wildlife, and Estes Park.
The location is perfect, as we were in the park viewing the elk within 8 minutes of leaving the cabin. Of course, there is a huge bull elk on the property that you can always watch from your cabin. Estes Park is literally 5 minutes away, so this is definitely the best location around!
We much prefer the privacy and comfort of a cabin to a hotel or condo, so the lack of full room service isn't an issue. And they do provide fresh towels, bath amenities, firewood, and trash removal, so were quite comfortable.
The staff was excellent and was most helpful with our questions and concerns. We even wrote to ask about weather conditions and wildlife viewing before our trip, and got an email response in hours. Plus, There was always fresh cookies in the office, along with the usual helpful service.
Check out their website for all the info you need, and more. This is definitely one of the most informative lodging site I've seen, and was one of the reasons we chose McGregor.
Some that had issues here, could have avoided it if they'd read the available info.
We are completely happy with McGregor Mountain Lodge, and will return in the Spring.
For comfort, location, wildlife, and the friendly staff, we don't see a reason to stay elsewhere.
