“Nice stay, but pricey. Close to RMNP and Town.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Front desk staff was welcoming and friendly at check-in. Lobby and dining area have a pleasant western-theme to them. The hotel is located on the shore of Lake Estes about 2 miles east of downtown and about 8 miles from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Our room was located on the lake side of the resort and room did have a balcony (shared) with two chairs. The room provided very nice views of the mountains and the lake. Room contained two beds (very comfortable), sitting chair & ottoman, HD TV, and business desk and chair. Bathroom contained the toilet and shower/tub combo. The sink was in the room parallel to, and next to, one of the beds. Of note, the sink height was the lowest I’ve experienced in a long-time. Wi-Fi available and it is free. Room also contained a microwave and refrigerator.

The room and public areas were well-kept and clean. An odd part of the resort are the huge dumpsters directly to the left of the lobby entrance (about 15 feet down) which were not only unsightly, but stunk! Surprised that the resort has not found a way to hide the dumpsters and eliminate the stench.

Large parking lot with ample free parking.

Overall experience was good, but cost of the room was high.

This place is by no means a luxury resort. We stayed for 5 days in late July. To start you are greeted at the entrance to the hotel with the smell of rotting garbage, as poor layout placed the garbage receptacles 30 yards from the front entrance. While the resort has a nice rustic charm and was clean, the rooms have paper thin walls and ceilings. So every sound your neighbor makes can be heard including every step they take above you. The girl at the front desk was always pleasant and greeted us when we came in, the young man there however never seemed to be able to look up from the computer screen to acknowledge us or even say hi. We stopped one morning for breakfast in the cafe there, one waitress on staff, who did not have a clue of what she was doing. After listening to her tell the table next to us numerous times I'll be right back and 5 min later show up with the forgotten item only to have forgotten something else and start the process over again. We began to worry. After 30 min since ordering we still never even received our coffee so we left . Needless to say we had planned on eating dinner there but after this decided against it. The resort seemed to be understaffed and the staff that was there definely were not trained. This is all a reflection of poor management and ownership. This resort is way overpriced for what it is. We will not be staying here again.

We arrived at check-in and Nicole was very helpful at helping us to find things to do. However, the resort was smaller then expected. We tried using the hot tub and it was freezing. Another couple told us it had not been working for 2 days and had complained. We notified the front desk and a young gentleman basically said..."well its working now" which we found to be untrue. Very expensive place to stay and not worth the stay. They did have big rooms but we will not be staying here again.

This was such a wonderful and relaxing place to getaway! We enjoyed walking the path around the lake whilst enjoying the views and the wonderful weather, walking/shopping/lunch around the town (the Indian place is great!), hiking RMNP and enjoying spa services.

Room
As the other reviews mentioned, the hotel rooms are not uber-luxurious, but more rustic and charming, yet still nicely updated! We did not have any issues with noise. The room was somewhat secluded with a fantastic view of the lake, mountains and elk that we enjoyed from the balcony with a cocktail! The separate living room and bedroom made it feel more like a home rather than a generic hotel room. We highly recommend room 302 on the top floor, if you can splurge!

Restaurant/Bar
The restaurant was great. We ate dinner here twice and both meals were quite delicious! The scallop dish with black beans, although unusual, was very yummy! It’s true, it’s more on the expensive side, but convenient when staying at the resort…and the lake view is a bonus. Jimmy, our bartender, was especially great! He was very welcoming and attentive!

Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we’d go back again!

We stayed 2 nights at Estes Park Resort in late July for a mini class reunion. The resort is a great place for a gathering; we spent many hours in the restaurant/bar, in smaller groups near the fireplace, and on the great deck that stretches across the back overlooking Lake Estes. It's located outside the center of town, so if you want to eat at local restaurants and do some shopping, a car trip would be required. However, we just wanted to visit and take it easy. We did rent a couple of pontoon boats from the marina next door, and that was a lot of fun.

We had a king room with lakeside view. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The bed and pillows were excellent. I would prefer private balconies, but it was nice to be able to sit outside. We were at the end of the hall on the main floor, and it was very quiet, although when there were people in the connecting room, we could pretty easily hear their television and talking.

The staff in the bar and restaurant were excellent, especially serving a group of 17. James, one of the bartenders, was particularly accommodating. Food in the restaurant was quite good with an interesting menu, an improvement over our previous visit a few years ago.

We just had the pleasure of an extended weekend at the Resort to attend a friends wedding...Couldn't have been more pleased with the staff, the room and the location. As someone said in another review the room was a little dark. We loved the location with the short drive into town and the beautiful, just breathtaking views! We had breakfast on the deck of the Waterfront Grille. It was wonderful! On Saturday evening we attended a wedding and the food was once again spectacular and the staff exceptional. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a great location in Estes Park.

Beautifully located on Estes Lake. Close, but not walking distance, to shopping and restaurants. The rooms were large, the bedding comfortable. Our room was dark as it only had one small window and the lighting wasn't good. The deck overlooking the lake was great to enjoy dinner and lunch which we did both. The onsite restaurant had a great BLT for lunch! The dinner menu was just ok. The indoor pool was very cold, the whirlpool barely fit 4 adults and was lukewarm. The water level barely covered our knees. Not sure what the problem was. But overall, it was an ok place to stay. I am sure other hotels in the area are a bit cheaper. Our last day there, we walked out the door to pack up the car and 14 Elk were roaming the grounds. They were grazing within 10 feet of us so we got some great photos! So close that you could see the velvet on the antlers of the males. That was amazing!!

Room Tip: Rooms offering a lake view with a balcony are best. Corner rooms have a very little window and make...
