What a joy to celebrate our first wedding aniversary with Rudi and Hilde at thei wonderful home. Both made us very welcome and proved both their excellent hospiality and cooking skills. I encountered my first elch just nearby the bed and breakfast and was stunned by the beauty of the nature around the area.
My husband Bruce and I spent two nights and would come back anytime to revisit. People who have seen our pictures from this trip and in specific of Rudi's and Hilde's home were impressed with the self made wood furnitures of the instide and the outside of the Bed and Breakfast.
Again thank you very much for your loving hospitaity !!
Your friends Olivia and Bruce

PS. Ich hoffe dass es Ihnen beiden gut geht und der Verkauf Ihres Anwesens gut voran geht. Ebenso wuensche ich Ihnen eine schoene Vorweihnachtszeit sowie ein gutes Jahr in 2010 !!

The hosts are so friendly and love their roles. They bring a little Old World charm to Estes Park. We would do some early morning hiking and come back to eat breakfast as breakfast is definitely not to be missed. Beautiful home where the elk wander down into the backyard and there are hummingbirds buzzing all around the bird feeders. Highly recommend them.

I cannot say enough good things about the Sonnenhof B&B and the innkeepers, Hilde & Rudy. The inn is absolutely beautiful, the view is wonderful, and Hilde and Rudy are the most gracious of hosts. I stayed in the Golden Aspen Suite which is lovely. The bed is huge and so comfortable! The room was perfect - the closet was a nice size, the kitchen is well equiped with a small fridge, stovetop and oven, microwave and all the dishes and utensils you need. The yard is beautiful and I was able to watch all types of wildlife while sitting on the patio. The inn is just a short drive from town - less than 5 minutes unless you have to wait for the elk to cross the road! Breakfast was served each morning at 8:30 and was never disappointing. Delicious! The only thing I didn't like about the Sonnenhof was that i had to leave! I cannot wait to go back!

Having never stayed at a B&B before, I was a little hesitant, but since there aren't a lot of "hotels" in Estes Park, a B&B it was. My husband and I booked online but they were full up (computers are slower than phones) so we were rescheduled for the next weekend.

When we arrived, we were shown our room, a large "studio" arrangement with a big bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. Everything was neat and tidy and waiting for us.

The kitchen area had glasses, plates, tea, hot chocolate, cookies set out, and water in the fridge. We used some of these and it was lovely not having to force ourselves to finish supper, since we had an oven, fridge, and microwave we could use to re-heat later.

Don't bother bringing anything "breakfast" related, they aim to please here! The first morning we had apple pancakes (European style...thinner and very good), fruit, bacon, orange juice, tea (or coffee) and rousing conversation. The second morning, we had waffles, fruit, roll, egg, puff pastry, juice, tea, water, and more wonderful conversation.

We saw elk, a rabbit, birds, and squirrels from the windows of our room.

If you are looking for an "alternative" to the usual motel/hotel, check this place out...

My wife and I stayed here for the final 2 nights of 7000 miles road trip. We stayed here for the labor day weekend. Since this was our first stay in Estes Park, we researched and read a lot about hotels in Estes Park. At the time of reservation (over 30 days prior to our stay), all hotels were almost full due to a national holiday. And I was referred here, Sonnenhof B&B by another B&B by accident. It was pretty easy to find the place from Denver (used navigation). We arrived late (8pm) at night, but as soon as we met Rudy and Hilde, they made us feel like coming back home to see parents. They were very friendly. We were also very surprised how neat and clean the room was. The room had a nice view and some wild animal visitors at night. Breakfast was huge. We could only half. There were 2 other visitors and we all had breakfast together, which was very interesting experience and extended our breakfast for fun. We spent most of the day time in Rocky Mt. N.P. but we wish we could stay at B&B and spent more time with Rudy and Hilde... Everything was great and we never forget about this place.

Cleanliness: 10 out of 10 (super clean, Owner Rudy takes care of building)
Location: 9 out of 10 (you need a map if no navigation)
Rooms: 10 out of 10 (very quiet and private. Lots of features and super comfortable)
Service: 10 out of 10 (friendly folks)
Value: 10 out of 10 (seems expensive but well worth your money)

We stay multiple nights at Sonnenhof every year. Our hosts Rudy and Hilde hand-crafted the rustic furniture in each room. The rooms are lush, big beds, reading nooks, jacuzzi tubs. The breakfasts are huge and yummy - you won't have to eat until evening! The big backyard has lots of flowers, pathways, and places to just sit and hold hands and enjoy eachother...

On our last visit to Estes Park, my fiance and I were married. Rudy and Hilde at Sonnenhof hosted a big breakfast for us and our entire wedding party (12 of us)! The food was wonderful! Everyone was wandering around the backyard, sitting in the swing, walking the pathways. The backyard was the perfect setting for photos and gathering with everyone. It was the perfect wedding day!

Sonnenhof is only a mile or so from the Rocky Mountain National Park. It is easy access to the park entrance and it is very close to the main street of Estes Park, but it's secluded enough to be the most romantic place on earth. A walk around Mary's Lake is easy to do before breakfast. The lake is just down the hill.

Sonnenhof is a magical place - we truly recommend this Bed and Breakfast!

The Sonnenhof was not our first choice in Estes Park. It wasn't even our second choice. But I'm sure glad our first two choices were booked because we had a delightful stay at the Sonnenhof. Hilde and Rudy take great pleasure in making sure their guests have everything they need for an enjoyable stay. The breakfasts are exceptional, and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh! -- fresh homemade pastries, fresh fruit, and fresh hot "main dishes" as well. The rooms are very spacious, and the views are stunning! When checking in, your room will have some treats waiting for you, including some homemade cookies. The only thing to be aware of is that the rooms are not made up on subsequent days. That's not a problem, though, as there are plenty of extra towels, and Rudy and Hilde stand ready to get you anything you need at a moment's notice.
