YMCA of the Rockies
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 20, 2014

The YMCA Estes park center is surrounded by Rocky Mtn National Park on 3 sides and Estes Park is nearby .
Stayed at Long Peak lodge which had nice views, as most of the lodging does. Room was very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was good with a few choices for protein.
They use lots of seasonal employees and volunteer so that many people can have the experience of being in the Rockies and at the YMCA. The service for breakfast and check-in all ran very smoothly.

Stayed here the first weekend in January to escape the harsh, drab Midwestern winter. It was heavenly. Cabins were clean and stocked with the cookware items we needed to make our own meals. Plenty of hot water and a good heating system in the cabin kept us cozy. love being able to walk out the door and into Rocky Mountain National Park. Got some good snowshoeing in and enjoyed the quiet and calm of winter in the mountains.

I really like it here. My family and I are spending 4 days for some quiet holiday relaxation before the new year. Don't let the name YMCA fool you; this is a reasonably-priced quality establishment with great service, phenomenal views of the mountains, churches, recreation center, all within walking distance. It's away from the center of town, but you will find everything here, so you really don't need to leave.

There are five of us and a dog, so we are staying in one of the larger cabins. It is really spacious, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, large fully-equipped kitchen and a nice wood fireplace. It is not a luxury setup by any means, but everything is very clean and well-maintained, and you will be hard pressed not to have a great time. My family has been coming here for years, but this was my first time. I will definitely be returning, likely during the summer months.

Room Tip: Opt for a cabin instead of the dorms, if possible. You won't really have a bad view.

I have stayed at this YMCA twice, and both times were great! The first time was a room in one of the lodges, and it was as nice as any hotel room. The second time we got a 2 bedroom cabin, and that was just incredible! It had a full kitchen (with dishes, pots & pans etc.) and a nice full bathroom with a tub. There are so many things to do there, and the price can't be beat for what you get.

A few tips: ask for a new cabin when you do your reservation. They're the same price as the older ones, but a bit nicer (ours was called far far away). Ask ahead of time about whether the cabin has a gas or wood fireplace. Although they have regular heat regardless, I would have preferred a wood fireplace and ours had gas. The dining facility is nothing fancy, expect cafeteria food and nothing more. Reserve things like the zipline early! They fill up fast. Try to go in the off season, you can score great deals, and have things like the ice rink completely to yourself (and it's free!).

I still can't believe this resort is a YMCA. It was spectacular for a winter stay - quiet, serene, exceptionally clean (even the bathroom and bedroom linens were in good shape), and our cabin had a stunning view as well as a fireplace to cozy up to. The cabin also is independently heated (i.e. fireplace not necessary for heat), and there was enough hot water for three women to each take a shower. This is the perfect place to stay if you would like to go into the Rockies to cross-country ski, hike, or snowshoe in the winter. It's also still close enough to Estes Park for supermarkets, liquor stores, restaurants, etc.

The only downside was that the chimney of our cabin may need to be swept, as a lot of smoke filled out cabin.

I'm not sure what it's like in the summer, though there are a million things for kids to do, so I imagine it's wonderful for families, if not a bit crowded. For the winter, however, this place is ace!

Room Tip: Aloha cabin offers an incredible view!

The YMCA of the Rockies, located in Estes Park at the entry of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado was a welcome surprise and wonderful retreat from the city. No TV's in the lodge we stayed in, but you can stay in one of many lodges or cabins that have varying amenities. Bring your games and deck of cards and enjoy some real family time. We were there the weekend of November 29-Dec 1, 2013. For $99, the rooms at the lodge we were in were very spacious, clean, quiet and had everything we needed. If you're looking for a family place this is it--there will be kids but for the most part all was quiet by 10pm and no noise until 7-8am. We received two free vouchers for the breakfast buffet located in another building and then bought two more at $5/each. The buffet was much more than a continental breakfast buffet--everything you can think of was on it! There are several activities to do at this Y--they have all the outdoor activities, hiking, etc. and several things to do inside including an indoor pool and craft building to make anything from pottery to tie-dye t-shirts for small fee.
While at Estes that weekend we participated in their annual Christmas parade and enjoyed the shopping on Main Street that next morning. If we stay in Estes again, this is where we would choose.

We stayed in a two bedroom cabin in late Nov 2013 with a fireplace it was really nice with plenty of room. Fully stocked kitchen was nice to have as we cooked most of our meals. Plenty of activities for the kids such as indoor swimming, arts and crafts center, & presentations put on by the staff such as survival classes & animal detectives. We ate breakfast one morning in the dining hall very nice selection and food was good. Be sure to check out the gift shop prices were good and I bought Christmas gifts there. Beautiful views and the town of Estes Park & Rocky Mountain national Park is only a few miles away. I would come back here in a heartbeat!!
