“Very Dissappointing: More like a "Residence Inn" with nice views then a B&B...”
Reviewed March 26, 2006

My husband and I just spent a weekend at the Taharra and although we loved the building and the views the service and all the "little things" you except from a B&B were just NOT there for the price you pay...

The management was friendly and the lodge rooms were nice but nothing about our stay was different then staying in a decent hotel room...the sheets were rough the bed was hard as a rock, there was barely a flame in the fireplace, the toiletries were cheap, the towels and robes were less then desirable and the room just did not feel very cozy. The happy hour was VERY DISAPPOINTING as they only offered chex mix and a few cheap wines. The lodge is a few miles outside of town and we just expected a better happy hour with some home baked goods, better selection of wines, and just better ambiance. The breakfast entree was decent and well presented but left you hungry and was hardly gourmet. But most disappointing was that there was NO selection whatsoever of baked goods/cereals and shame on them for not even serving decent coffee with real cream (it tasted like Folgers). I realize I sound harsh but other then the beautiful views my husband and I felt like we were staying at a VERY EXPENSIVE residence inn and we were really looking for the little things that pamper you at B&B and I really feel that the Taharra is more of decent hotel then anything near a B&B. So if you just need a expensive room for the night with good views then the Taharra is for you but if you are looking for some B&B pampering look elsewhere!!!!

This was my second stay at Taharaa and the best part about it was the absence of the Owner Diane. The rooms are amazing. Gorgeous everything. I will be back next time she is on vacation or after she sells it.

The Taharra is a great spot in Estes Park about 4 miles out from center of town. Nicely furnished rooms and i believe every room has a great view, gas fireplace, and small deck. The breakfast food is very good and filling and they provide tea/coffee outside your room in the morning. The inn keepers are an EXTREMELY friendly and helpful couple from New Orleans. My only, very minor gripe, is the happy hour each evening is only 1 hour and the only snacks are pretzels. While no Ritz, it is much classier than any of the other lodging spot in Estes (except for the Stanley).

This review is well over-due, as it's been over a year since my wife and I stayed at the Taharaa. Our original plans changed due to emergency surgery a mere 2 weeks before we were scheduled to stat at the Taharaa. They were more than accomodating in changing our reservation, which was surprising as most B&B's are quite strict with these policies. When we finally did make our trip to Estes Park, we arrived to find a beautiful inn with a great location (near both town and the park entrances) and excellent service. The room was small, but nicely decorated and very clean. We had a wonderful view from our balcony. We greatly enjoyed the afternoon happy hour as a time to mingle with other guests (great for getting suggestions for hikes to take, restaurants to go to, etc). There was also a large collection of menus from local restaurants and once you decided where you wanted to have dinner, the inn keeper was more than happy to call to reserve your table. Breakfasts were also great, although a little windy the days were there for dining on the balcony. Overall, it was a great stay, wished we would have stayed longer and we will be back again soon.

My husband surprised me with a stay at the Taharaa for my birthday a couple of years ago. We were so pleased with our experience that we returned last year for our anniversary. The owners went out of their way to make us feel special and arranged with my husband to have flowers for me in the room on our arrival and for snowshoe rental the next morning with another local business. This B&B is a great deal if you like a 'hands on' B&B experience. They offer a free wine 'social hour', coffee, cocoa & tea outside your room every morning, a full breakfast, free videos in your room & hot tub open late hours. The views from the balconys are beautiful and the rooms are clean and well maintained. The owners are very nice and are more than happy to suggest activities and restaurants in the area. We have stayed in many B&B's, but this one remains my favorite.
The prices in winter are very reasonable - we live a short drive away and believe that Estes Park is at its peak during winter when you have the whole town and Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park all to yourself.

The Taharra has nice asthetic features, but the service was not what we're used to for their price. The owners were almost militaristic about "dos and don'ts". We did not feel comfortable or relaxed during our 2 night stay in fear that we would break one of their many rules. One of the people in our group staying at the Taharra accidentally broke a soap dish and was charged for it. The food at breakfast was very good and nicely presented; however it was unavailable if one didn't adhere to their strict rules to get it.
Our room was not as clean as we would have liked; there was debris on the floor when we arrived - a pen cap, a credit card, and dust balls along the edges of the floor, among other bits of things.
We would not recommend the Taharra.

We were happy to find this jewel after an unfortunate stay in a nearby guest lodge.

The rooms were very nice and well maintained.
The owners and staff are particularly helpful and friendly.

The breakfast is fantastic.
Highly recommended!
