“Great way to end our Colorado adventure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

Our week long vacation in Colorado did not start out on the best note...but it ended well with the wonderful hospitality that Jared, Diane and Ken offered at their gorgeous lodge. Estes Park is a quaint little town that is a few miles from one of the entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park. It has local shopping and restaurants. Our trip began in Colorado Springs and needless to say it was too hot since we were trying to escape the heat of Miami, Florida. Rocky Mountain National Park was part of our original itinerary, but we did not plan for the park being closed half way in due to snow that fell 2 weeks prior so the entire trip needed to be rearranged and hotels were booked and canceled due to the weather and our personal preference to not be around too many people. You just never know how long or short of a time you will be spending in a place until you actually visit it. We wished that our entire trip was more like the end. Taharaa Lodge ended up being our savior to reclaim the vacation we really needed to get away and escape the craziness! The lodge overlooks the Estes Valley and has a gorgeous view off the balcony. We had booked a hotel in Estes Park that was "questionable" to say the least and on our way to that hotel, I remember passing Taharaa. When we checked in the original hotel we booked, we immediately checked out and we searched for Taharaa on the tablet. We called and Jared answered the phone. He told us to come by and he would assist us. When we arrived, it was happy hour and there were other couples in the great room enjoying wine and snacks. Jared showed us a few rooms to choose from and then had us enjoy happy hour while we filled out the necessary paperwork. Astor, the lodge dog welcomed us as well and she was a delight since we were missing our 3 furry babies...Astor even discovered our beef jerky in our bag and she was so proud to have found her little "treasure". Ken and Diane were amazingly sweet, generous and helpful. Diane is an amazing cook! Each morning we had a delightful breakfast that I am still thinking about today!! I have had a lot of great meals, but Diane has a true talent and if you are someone who appreciates a heavenly breakfast, hers will not disappoint! We loved our experience so much that on our last day before we checked out, we let Diane know that if she was ever interested in selling the lodge, we would definitely be interested!! Thank you again to Jared, Diane, Ken and the entire team at Taharaa Lodge that helped end our Colorado adventure on a positive, relaxing note. You all were amazing and we greatly appreciate everything!! Sincerely, Carrie & Robert B.

Our first time to Estes Park and RMNP. This trip was really made special by the accommodations and the welcoming of the owners and especially the innkeeper Jared. We were there for three nights last week in May. Room was very nice and view wonderful. Relatively few other guests (week after Memorial Day). Jared very helpful with recommendations on eating and activities in Park. Estes Park itself is disappointing, very much "tee shirt and ice creme shops". Eating is ok but not great. We did find at Jared's suggestion a somewhat local restaurant that served fresh trout (according to him the only one in town that served fresh vs frozen). Only small complaint is the quality of the wine at "happy hour". needs to be upgraded.

We spent 3 nights at Taharaa in mid-May, and we could not be happier with our experience. It was our first time in the area, and the proprietors (Diane and Ken) and innkeeper (Jared) were gracious hosts who really made our stay enjoyable. In particular, without being pushy, they asked what our plans were, and then offered suggestions as to which specific trails to go to, what was likely to be open, and the most optimal way to arrange our trip (e.g. which trail to do on the day when it was supposed to be sunny, and which to save for the foggier day on our trip). They gave us maps with specific directions which were very useful when we hit the road. We followed their suggestions exactly and we felt that their advice allowed us to maximize our time in the mountains. The general feeling at the lodge was one of respected privacy and coziness. There is a code to enter the lodge so that it remains private to guests. The decor was rich was inviting, and each room has its own theme. We stayed in the Ute Indian room (a regular room with a king-size bed on the 2nd floor). The room came with 2 bathrobes, shampoo (no conditioner), body lotion (very useful for those of us not used to the dryness of the mountains), soaps, makeup removing wipes, and a blow dryer. While there was no kitchenette in our room, there was a communal vending room with a fridge, microwave, soda machine, coffee machine, napkins, and plasticware. There was also a room with a DVD library, books (including many travel books), and games, all of which guests are free to borrow. We had breakfast at the lodge every morning (included in the stay), which had ample choices, including juice, coffee, tea, yogurts, cereal, cut up fruit, a baked good and a cooked entree. Diane and Ken are very willing to accommodate dietary restrictions. There is a happy hour daily, which we unfortunately did not make it back for on time during our stay; we also did not have time to take advantage of the gym or spa facilities, but those are available to interested parties. Finally, one appeal of the lodge is the gorgeous view from the balcony. (Each room has its own balcony, complete with a table and two chairs; our view from the Ute Indian room was incredible.) At 6:30am on a sunny morning, we saw elks grazing outside, and we also saw some beautiful birds. Overall, we had a truly pleasant experience, and we would highly recommend Taharaa especially to couples. Although there are cheaper places in the area, we felt it was worth it to spend a little more on a beautiful lodge when our daily activities (primarily in the mountains) cost so little, and we are so happy we did. Finally, though this likely differs by individual GPS, our GPS could not locate the lodge by its address, so the GPS coordinates listed on Taharaa's website were very helpful. Thank you Taharaa for making our trip so memorable!

With another couple we celebrated our birthdays Memorial Weekend. We made a reservation at this wonderful bed and breakfast. The location couldn't have been better being away from the honky cabins and motels at the entrance of Rocky Mt Nat'l Park. The breakfasts and happy hour everyday gave us a chance to interact with owners who are absolutely charming and other guests.
Would like to return and see park in fall and certainly stay again with Diane and Ken!

This was our first trip to the area and we could not have been more pleased with the beautifully designed lodge and spectacular views of the Rockies from our room and other areas of the lodge. The owners and innkeeper were so hospitable and helpful - and such good breakfasts and coffee a bonus! We recommend Taharaa Mountain Lodge highly and without reservation.

Our thanks to owners Diane and Ken and innkeeper Jared for a welcoming and wonderful stay. The Lodge is beautifully kept and in a gorgeous setting. We stayed two nights in a junior suite -- the views were amazing, the room was large, bright and clean with nice amenities, and the homemade breakfasts were delicious (and massive!). We were definitely well cared for and given excellent recommendations on hiking, scenic routes, and local restaurants. Thanks for making us feel at home! We hope to return to CO so that we can stay here again for another relaxing getaway.

I have been frequenting Estes since I was little. We finally found a place to stay that has beautiful views, hospitable owners and delicious breakfasts. One morning we woke up to 12+ inches of snow on the ground. Our plans had I be cancelled, but we had a wonderfully relaxing day staying at the lodge and curling up near the fireplace.

I can't wait to come back!
