We ate dinner recently at the Cascades in the Stanley Hotel. It was a delightful dining room and had a beautiful extra long bar that was completely full! Dinner was a beautiful presentation. Both entrees had a bit too much spice to them on both prime rib/shrimp and scallops! Our waiter was very attentive but did not get in the way of conversation.

We ate breakfast here before setting out for Rocky Mountain National Park. The thing we liked a lot is the menu was different. I had smoked trout, eggs and potatoes. We wished we had the time to stay longer to linger at their beautiful bar. The service was excellent, the food topnotch. They now charge a $5 fee to enter the premises, but you get that off your bill. With the smallish parking lot and limited common areas, we didn't mind because it kept the gawkers away

We arrived rather late, without reservations, on a week night after our dinner plans fell through. They told us we would have to wait 30 minutes, which we were OK with. But then they apparently remembered a small private dining room wasn't in use, so they seated us within minutes. Both of us had steaks that were amazing and perfectly medium rare per our order. Our server was gracious and efficient. They turned a bad evening into a memorable experience for us. And the opportunity to walk through the grounds of the Stanley was the cherry on top.

We ate in the main dining room in late Sept. 2012. The atmosphere is very nice. The bar is exceptionally excellent -- a couple of hundred whiskies. Service in the bar was inconsistent, once great and once atrocious. The restaurant food is decent but not exceptional. Overall, it's worth seeing the place, which is old and charming, and having a drink at the bar, but the food is not great and not worth the elevated prices.

We've found the best place to dine on a diet. All you need do is eat at the Cascades in the Stanley Hotel. Our overpriced lunch consisted of 1/2 trout and about 4 slivers of potato swimming in a lemony sauce. That cusine went along with a $4.00 iced tea. There was no bread, no salad, not even three spears of asparagus. For $22.00, one would expect slightly more.
The waitress ignored us until she brought the check. She ignored our need for refills, ignored our request for salt and pepper, and brought us the menu after we had already ordered. Oops! She did finally come by with the check, and at that point she oozed sweetness. My husband and I could not figure out what was worse...the food or the waitress...or maybe the flies. I would have liked to bring a fly swatter or a can of Raid.
