“Bad Service and Not Much Food”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

We've found the best place to dine on a diet. All you need do is eat at the Cascades in the Stanley Hotel. Our overpriced lunch consisted of 1/2 trout and about 4 slivers of potato swimming in a lemony sauce. That cusine went along with a $4.00 iced tea. There was no bread, no salad, not even three spears of asparagus. For $22.00, one would expect slightly more.
The waitress ignored us until she brought the check. She ignored our need for refills, ignored our request for salt and pepper, and brought us the menu after we had already ordered. Oops! She did finally come by with the check, and at that point she oozed sweetness. My husband and I could not figure out what was worse...the food or the waitress...or maybe the flies. I would have liked to bring a fly swatter or a can of Raid.

I was a little hesitant to choose this restaurant after reading the mixed reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. Cascades has an extensive wine list, with something for every taste and price point. Our dinners (the filet and scallops) were both delicious, and the desserts were heavenly. The room is cozy, and quite small, so reservations are necessary. The service was prompt and friendly.

“Small selection but wonderful steak.”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

My husband and I both had steak while we dined at Cascades. It was cooked very well and was super flavorful. The only downside was the menu selection. It was quite small and aside from the one special didn't change. If there were more selections at different price levels we would have eaten here more than once since we stayed five nights at the hotel.

It was also VERY loud. The lounge shares space with the restaurant and we had trouble hearing each other over all the noise. We enjoyed the lounge several nights in a row. However when paying the high prices and dressing up ($97 for two sirloin steaks, one glass of wine and soup) it would be nicer to not have to shout to be heard. Otherwise the waitress and food were excellent.

“Try the smoked pheasant app!!”

We ejoyed a couple drinks and a great dinner here! The old fashioned drinks were a nice change of pace and we really enjoyed the elderflower cocktail. The food was great and some nice interesting twist on some old standards. The service was good and the place was packed...
