“Ok for a night”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

I recently stayed in the double king suite with kitchen and jacuzzi tub. The room was a large corner unit. It was dark, but since we were only there for one night, it didn't really matter. We slept fine. I've stayed in three other hotels in Crescent City (including the Hampton Inn, back when it was there) and for the price, the Quality Inn is acceptable for a night. Everything about the hotel is dated, but this is CC, everything is dated.

As someone said before, join the rewards club before reserving a room. We tried to check in early (because that is when we got into town), and the lady at the front desk (owner?) dragged her feet on checking to see if our room was ready. She also clearly did not want to store our luggage until the room was ready as a courtesy. However, when she saw that I was a rewards club member, her attitude completely changed. In fact, she said, "Oh, I see you are a member. I have to treat you differently." I wasn't looking to be treated differently, just with courtesy. Lo and behold, our room was ready.

Crescent City is half way between Newport, Oregon and Santa Rosa, California on US 101, one might call the "scenic route." My wife and I stayed there twice to and from our daughter's wedding in Santa Rosa. We found the staff friendly and good customer servants. The hotel is average for the chain, offers AAA discounts, and awards points to Quality Inn card members. Rooms open from the outside around a reasonably maintained quadrangle.

Room Tip: Go online and make a reservation after you apply for a club card.

Ugh, Crescent City. As all travelers know Crescent City is a stop on the way to somewhere else, the accommodations reflect this except the prices don't reflect it. Don't bother upgrading to ocean views, the ocean is off in the distance with slag heaps of undetermined rubble making for a delightful foreground. The hotel is a slightly upscale motel six, no flat screens or room service here. I would expect to pay 80 or 90 bucks for a place like this most anywhere, but when you're in the middle of no where you are at the hotel industry's mercy. I know there is another hotel down at the end of a long street by the ocean with better views and a nicer set-up for a similar price. If you like Thai food, the House of Thai is a good dining venue and will deliver to your room for a couple bucks. Overall the place isn't bad, but it's not worth what they are charging!

Don't waste your time and money! The room was not clean. The towels and bed sheets had stains on them. The TV remote and light switch plates looked like they had never been wiped off either. We didn't go to the pool or down to the lobby for the continental breakfast. Nice area - perfect spot - but not a clean hotel.

Right on US-101 but close to the seacoast, safe parking, convenient to restaurants some even walking, expensive town for gasoline, spacious and comfortable room (the one we were in = 2 queen sized beds for a senior citizen couple, one would be enough), a young lady in charge when we arrived and departed the next morning who was very efficient, energetic, and polite (every motel would be blessed for a person such as this working their desk and breakfast bar, etc.).

Room Tip: Some good restaurants close, even walking distance.

This is an older hotel so it is dated. However, the rooms were clean. They have recently installed new shower heads which are very nice. Be careful when taking a shower though because the temperature of the water changes quickly if someone in a room near by flushes the toilet or turns on their shower.

The bed was comfortable and we did get a good night's sleep. However, the pillows were a bit hard. Kind of like sleeping on rocks. The first room we checked in to had a non-functional fan in the bathroom that rattled quite loudly. So we called the desk clerk and she moved us to a different room. Large window in the bathroom area that lets in early sunlight so if you want darkness to sleep a bit later, you won't get it in one of their rooms with an eastern exposure.

All staff members in this location were friendly and helpful. Checked other hotels in this area and we feel we got what we paid for based on their room rate that was lower than other overnight accommodations in the same area.

Room Tip: If you like to sleep late in darkness, ask for a room that does not have an eastern exposure.
