“Stuck in the 80s”

The good: rooms were clean, nice enough pool, free wifi, BREAKFAST!
The bad: charges for in-room safe, value for money, no NBC feed, sauna didn't seem to work
The ugly: the decor... so dated!

Booked 2 rooms here for a family road trip. Not much to the town itself... kind of wish we'd stayed the extra night in Oregon. Motel is one of those old fashioned types with the parking out front, exterior stairways to the second level, and outside access to rooms. Room style was very dated: peach colours, 'sanitary napkin' paper bags in bathroom. Room was clean, but with dated bedspreads and carpet how clean could it actually be? Room was also pretty small with a, inconvenient vanity area as well. Security seemed off: the locks worked, however you could see a crack of light under the door and it just felt really odd/uncomfortable to hear the street noises so close and loud.
Breakfast is not at the motel, but instead at the restaurant across the parking lot. It was amazing: we got vouchers from the motel and experienced fresh California strawberries, good selection of buffet items, and reasonable service.
Two big irritations were the TV and the safe issues. As others have written, this place has no NBC feed, which made it difficult to follow the Olympics! Not sure if because there's no local NBC affiliate, but don't most places have satellite anyway? We also got charged a few dollars for the in-room safe fee. We didn't use the safe, and weren't informed of this expense. Find it kind of cheap to squeeze a few more dollars out of every room, every night.

We booked a three night stay here over Labor Day weekend for a trip to the Redwoods with some friends. It was the only hotel in Crescent City that had the following three factors: 1) It had a three star rating 2) It had a free breakfast 3) It had a pool, a must when one has kids. Although it was nothing special, we were satisfied with our stay. I thought the front desk service was very good. We wanted to use the conference room to hang out each night so we could talk and play games and they were extremely accomodating. I've personally seen better pools but the kids liked it. The rooms were adequate but I would probably rate them more like two and a half stars. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast buffet. When I first heard breakfast was going to be taking place in a real restaurant next door rather than the usual lobby setting, I was excited, expecting something special. Well, I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. The first day the restaurant was absolutely swamped and the wait staff was clearly overwhelmed. It took a while just to get seated and then it took a while longer to get a plate. They didn't do a good job keeping up with the food so breakfast was a long drawn out affair. The food was your typical free breakfast fare so had our fill by the second day. We skipped it altogether the third morning and went to the Starbucks on our way out own town. As my wife would say, for a tightwad like myself to miss out on something free, it's gotta to be pretty bad!

We had a great evening at the northwoods hotel. Fun bar on property to have food and drinks. Good breakfast in the morning included also! Beds were good too. Front desk guy was very nice also. Located right across the street from the boat harbour of Cresent city. We were in the newer building in the rear off the street so it was quite. Our building also had a hot tub in the garden courtyard.

We checked in here for two nights to go see the nearby forests. The room had two Queen beds and was pleasantly comfortable. No problem sleeping - our room faced east to the carpark and aside from the comings and goings with any motel was fine. Breakfast at the attached restaurant was good. My only minor complaintis with regard to the cleaning trollies the maids use. They are just too wide for getting past and with stairs at the far ends of the landing, getting past with heavy bags was a chore. Aside from this minor gripe it was a nice couple of nights and I highly recommend the attahced restaurant.

Room Tip: Second floor facing the eastern car park. Go for the middle of the building so you're not distur...

Stopped one night after a long day on the road. Shut the door behind me and went to bed. Got up in the morning to find that the room hadn't been cleaned after the last tenants. Everything used. Bathroom floor wet and dirty towels around. Hair in the sink and waste baskets full. On checking out, I talked to the clerk about it. She wasn't interested. Said she would mention it to housekeeping. Never, ever again.

This is a very basic motel - I cannot imagine what a BW without the "plus" would be like based on the two BW Plus motels I've used recently. The room was small, with no soundproofing in any direction, so we could here toilets, showers, footsteps from the room above and those on each side. The bathroom was minute, with just a small bath/shower and W.C., and the washbasin was in the bedroom. They had crammed 2 beds into the room, so the door hit the first bed as you came in and moving cases around was a nightmare. The hotel is right on the edge of town, in an industrial area, so you are stuck for choice of where to eat if you don't want to drive out again. We used the adjoining restaurant (which is used by the hotel to provide breakfast, but isn't actually part of the hotel) for our dinner - but ate very little of what was served as we were put off by a dozen or so flies buzzing around us the whole time we were there. Back to the room, and the air con was too noisy to leave on all night but the room was baking without it (even though the temperature had only been in the 60's during the day) - so with that, the noise from the neighbouring rooms and motor-cycles in the car park into the late hours we had little sleep. A motel - indeed, from my experience to date a whole chain - to avoid.

We dropped in here late in the evening, without reservations (in mid-Fall, so not a crowded time). This is a typical older B/W. Nothing spectacular, but clean and comfortable. The plus side was the attached restaurant, which served us an excellent late evening dinner (complete with razor clams, which we had been unable to find further up the coast). The motel offers a complimentary full breakfast at this same restaurant each morning. Worth the price of the room!

Room Tip: First floor at the end away from the office.
