Best Western Plus Northwoods Inn
Ranked #3 of 19 Hotels in Crescent City

We appreciated this motel. They shuffled things around and gave us a ground floor room. The hotel sold out and was packed, but I had the laundry services all to myself which was so helpful. There was a lot of wildlife around, a motel kitty that was sweet and a raccoon that wandered past through the complex. The breakfast was nice and the staff was very helpful, very professional and kind. The room was average and clean and was more than comfortable. We appreciated the cable channels and the free wireless internet. My only gripe was the pool, it seemed murky and over chlorinated, but was fun non the less.

Room Tip: Call ahead during high season

I stayed at this hotel as a result of the then-Hampton Inn selling my confirmed reservation to someone else. For that, I have to give this hotel the edge over the then-Hampton (they no longer participate in the chain as of 6/1/11) in service. The breakfast is also a little nicer here. That being said, I have no idea how they get away charging $135 AAA rate (it would have been $150 if I hadn't been a AAA member!) for the room I got. I was put in an annex with no view and no elevator. Luckily this was only a long week-end trip, because if I'd had a big piece of luggage, it would have been fun lugging it up the stairs!
The furniture and room were old, and looked as if it hadn't been updated since the 70s. The small, old-style TV couldn't have been worth $100. The door jam was broken. Even if no guest had reported it (I did), shouldn't the maid have at least noticed it? Luckily I was just there overnight (later got to the then-Hampton: see my review for that place). Even the heating/AC unit was circa 1970s (one of those in which you either have it on heat or cool, and can't set a temperature). Even the location is both uninteresting and off the main highway. The annex we were in is quieter since it's in the back, although again has no elevator or views of anything but the parking lot.
I can see paying $135 for a poorly kept-up place in Manhattan, but Crescent City? They should take some of that cash flow and update the place if they're going to be charging prices like that...

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor if you have heavy luggage

This Best Western is just fine-utilitarian and completely like a million other motels in America. Room was good sized, clean, and quiet. Bathroom was okay, but did have a slight unpleasant odor. Also, the walls seemed to be paper thin and every noise could be easily heard from the neighboring rooms. Reception was very helpful. There is an indoor pool, which would be great for kids. Breakfast was included and was pretty decent, with fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, etc. The Wifi was fast and reliable. The Northwoods Inn was a good choice for an overnight stay but I wouldn't want to be there for more than that.

We always try to stay in a Best Western when we travel because of price and quality of the rooms. This, however, was the worst we have ever stayed in. We were in the detached section from the office, and had a first floor. Big mistake! The walls and ceiling were paper thin. We could hear every sound from above and next door. The t.v. was awful, picture quality and sound was not good. It was the weekend of the Master's Golf Tournament and a shame not to enjoy the event. The food was adequate; nothing special.

not sure why, mgmt said they dont do that, but there it was.that said, i was going to stay at the quality, but it was sunday, and i needed a lobby PC in order to make the reservation, and quality didnt have one available,, and the library was closed.also, i had a gift card from BW, after I wound up with points from a dispute over my inability to get any of their properties to accept their free night voucher from last years promotions.ok, overall.

We had a great time. The employees at the front desk, were very nice and helpful. Who ever was at the counter, would smile and talk to who ever came in, and were very willing to help the guest's with any issues. The pool wasn't really heated, but maybe because it wasn't quite summer yet. At night time, the area around the hotel seemed very quiet, with only the noise from the road as cars passed by. But only if you were outside your room could you hear it. Otherwise, a nice breeze from the marina across the street, with nice views of the boats coming and going. I will planning on staying here again, on our next trip down.

first i'll address some myths that some people seem to think of the Northwoods restaurant...

myth 1: "not worth the price" - how cheap can you be to think this place is expensive?!? for one, the breakfast buffet is free with your hotel stay... which is usually less than 70/night. in LA i pay 70/night for a drink at the bar. and whats more is that for all non-hotel stayers, the breakfast buffet is 3.99. yep... less than 4 dollars for all you can eat breakfast food. youll lose more cash between the sofa cushions...

myth 2: "the food is not good" - its the middle of nowhere!! this is the best food in a 150 mile radius. how spoiled do you have to be to not enjoy fresh fruits and oatmeal and cooked meat and eggs? youll be satisfied and can move on with your life...

also, the staff is great and the decor is very homey and country cozy

as for the hotel, its a best western, so you kinda know what you're getting: soap, shampoo, cheap coffee, free parking, not the most comfy beds, but warm and clean. one thing about this hotel that you should know is that the room doors open directly to the outside. ive stayed in so many hotels that i dont care anymore whether theyre interior doors or motel style outside doors. but you might wanna know that. hopefully you're not staying too long in crescent city though!
