Our guide book said that this was the best restaurant in town and we were looking forward to it. We had been finding the sugary and deep fried food food in the States a major challenge so when we saw that we could have grilled fish at the Chart Room, we were ecstatic. I had cod and my partner had halibut. Both were majorly over cooked and an huge disappointment.

We had heard about the Chart Room as a place to be entertained by seals and sea lions frolicking outside the restaurant's ocean view tables. That got our attention first; then we heard that the food was good as well and that there were always long waits to get a table. We went early for lunch today and had to wait about 15 minutes, but, unfortunately, there were no ocean view tables available. We had a very good lunch: grilled seafood platter of prawns, oysters, scallops, salmon and, for me, a crab Louie salad. We then made a reservation for an ocean view table for dinner and returned at 6:00 p.m. for a delightful meal (shrimp scampi and grilled wild cod and a lot of entertainment from about 25 sea lions and seals who put on a bit of a show. Lots of fun. We will return on our next trip to see the magnificent Redwood forests in this area.

Fantastic view of Crescent City Beach, the working marina and the resident seals while you dine on the freshest seafood around. Ask for the local fresh seafood specials, you won't be disappointed. The night we dined those choices included shrimp, scallops, cod, halibut and dungeness crab. What a choice! We also ordered a mound of steamer clams as an appetizer that were dug out that morning from an area a couple of towns south along the coast. Delicious! The service was quick and the servers friendly and knowledgeable. Our server did mix up our drink orders, but an extra beer all around is not the worst thing. The atmosphere is airy and bright and the bathrooms clean and interesting with bright murals. We did have to initially wait for a table but the estimated wait time was shorter than originally suggested so we were happy. Just enough time to walk up the boardwalk and check out the harbor.

Excellent chowder! Great coleslaw. A menu that that any seafood, or non seafood, lover would find appealing.
Even the GF hubby had good food- he loved the fish tacos!
