Hotel is in desperate need of renovation and new furnishings.
Breakfast is uninspired and the restaurant meals are awful.
Staff is indifferent.
The room we had put the coffee maker next to the toilet, ughh, balcony door had no lock, window didn't open, musty smell.

Took my father out to dinner here as we had heard from the locals it was a wonderful place to eat and view a wonderful view of the ocean. The place was appeared clean in the lobby and the dining room. Ordered a chief salad and the menu called for ham, turkey, olives, eggs, cheese, and greens. The waitress didn't know the menu when my wife asked what the specials were, and had to refer to the menu several times to answer other questions. The salad arrived and looked ok except they had substituted sliced roast beef instead of the ham and the waitress never made mention of it.

I walked to the bar as the waitress was nowhere to be seen. I was confronted by a man dressed in street clothes sitting at the bar who asked if he could help me. I asked him if he worked there and he said he was the cook. I asked to see the menu and once delivered I told him that the order called for ham, not roast beef. I told him I get sick when I eat beef. He said "well we ran out of ham a couple days ago and we were told to use roast beef." I ordered the clam chowder instead. The clam chowder came and was runny thin and had more potatoes than anything else.

Most places I'm aware of if and when they run out of something in the kitchen they send someone to the local market to replace the item until they get their shipment. The dress code lacked something to be desired as for an upscale Inn/Restaurant the waitress was wearing skin tight black jeans and white and black high top tennis shoes, the chef was wearing street clothing and bussing tables, my wife also noticed when the "Chef" came to retrieve the salad that his finger nails were very dirty underneath the nails. Stopped by the men's restroom on the way out and it was obvious they only check on the cleanliness once a shift. We won't be going back there anytime soon.

This hotel property was formerly a chain hotel. It is managed and maintained very well. The oceanfront rooms are spectacular, overlooking the Pacific with lighthouse just to the South. The rooms were newly appointed and extremely comfortable. The dining area was in the last stages of construction and will be very nice when completed. Breakfast was served as sort of a self serve style and was ample. I suspect by now the dining area is complete and breakfast may be quite different. Crescent City is a small, compact community and the hotel, though not on the main drag, is just a few blocks away. I would stay here consistently if I were a repeat visitor to Crescent City. The purpose of our stay was to get a good start on touring the Jedediah Smith Redwoods and the hotels location placed us just minutes from the park. We toured the park via Howland Hills Road, traveling from South to North. This road through the park is remarkable and not to be missed. We stopped at the Stout Grove and did the Stout Grove hike. We had spent the entire previous day traveling and photographing along the Avenue of the Giants which was very nice but for my money, if I could only get to one Redwood forest I would do the Jedediah Smith Redwoods via Howland Hill Road and hike/photograph the Stout Grove -- this was the best of all the redwood locations we visited.

Room Tip: Take a room with the ocean view. the upper floors have little balconies as well.

Best thing about this hotel is the location, and I give it 4 stars based mainly on this. It's away from the traffic and noise of US 101, but still convenient and easy to get to. The coast view from the large breakfast room is beautiful. The person at the desk was friendly and welcoming. Room clean and pretty well-appointed. Biggest disappointment was the "hot" breakfast--they had simply put cold, pre-cooked sausage and potatoes in a warmer and expected it to heat them up (it didn't). They should have started with hot food and used the warmer to keep it that way as intended.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view.

I agree with most of the recent reviews. The location and views are great. The property needs more help. The current owners seem to be trying but they've got a ways to go. We had to be moved from our first room as the toilet seat was broken and the bathroom sink didn't drain. Furnishings are tired and a bit on the disjointed side. The front desk staff are uninspired and going through the motions. Breakfast was OK but not special. The pool and spa were OK. For what you pay you would expect a bit more. So, should you choose to stay here enjoy the view and try and overlook the other short comings.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better.

I could write an essay on this hotel. There are definitely a lot of pluses,
Staff were young, friendly and helpful. Location is probably the best in CC. If you get the middle ore west sections, you would see Battery point LH. The far east faces parking lot but still good views of sunset. Rooms are clean and very adequate. Bath and towels nice. Spacious dining area and better breakfast than most others along the coast.
However there are so many ways this hotel needs improvement. Girls at desk and dining room wearing jeans is inappropriate. The front lobby and dining room lack any character or warmth. Tables and chairs are mismatched and windows are not clean. Pretty hard to keep windows clean when you are this close to the ocean so maybe some window treatments. Fireplace area was used for storage! If they could get a hotel decorator to put some warmth or coastal character into this place, it could be 4* .
