“Nice view!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We booked this hotel for a weekend get away to see the Redwoods. We asked for upper floor with balcony and got a suite with spectacular ocean view. Slept with window open to the sound of waves. Nice breakfast with sausage, potatoes and hard boiled eggs (free). Quiet. Right on the ocean with a rocky beach and light house. Bed was very comfortable with feather pillows. Clean. Microwave, fridge, coffee maker and hair dryer in the room all worked perfectly. Downstairs there is a pool, hot tub and workout room. Internet worked great, but we did have to sign in a lot. It appears they will soon have a restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor

We had a second floor oceanview room with a balcony. Loved the view and the balcony (which had two plastic chairs). We had a great view of the lighthouse and the property is really about 20-30 feet from the ocean when the tide is in. It's a rocky beachfront with lots of little pools, so don't expect to build sandcastles. There is a large beautiful sandy beach a five minute drive away.
Breakfast was average: Sausage, do-it-yourself-waffle-maker, cold cereal, bagels, etc. Breakfast room has lots of big windows, so a great view of the ocean, but clearly still under construction/remodeling (end of June 2013).
Cleanliness was average. Found a medium size spider in the room and tons webs on the small deck. Staff should really be clearling out the webs daily. Bathroom seemed clean but it was a jetted tub and that always creeps me out in a hotel. There were a few cracked/broken tiles but no major issues.
TV was super annoying to navigate through menu screens to TV guide to shows and back to the guide.
Staff was very friendly, patient, and helpful.
Best restaurants in the area that we found: Good Harvest Cafe (some good organic & vegetarian options) and Chart House (this place is bigger than we expected but still always packed so prepare to wait) Both were really good.

Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and in good repair. But there are some things that need to be improved upon. When the owner is present everyone a little more nervous and uptight. Hubby injured his leg and we needed to get some medical attention. Things went better than expected so we canceled our 3rd night stay the morning of our 2nd night stay, (more than 24 hours). The owner started to give the desk clerk a very hard time about issuing us a refund. I felt sorry for the clerk and spoke with the owner on her behalf. Let's just say it didn't go over well. For the price I expected a nicer breakfast. It was obvious they are working on the place and I hope it improves.

The Oceanfront Lodge is the best hotel I could find north of San Francisco. Everybody knows that the ocean view is unbeatable. Room rates are reasonable. People in the hotel are quite friendly. Breakfast at this hotel is much better than at most of chain hotels.

Room Tip: third floor room has better view of the ocean.

Great view of the light house, staff is present, little over priced, clean, okay breakfast, bed is uncomfortable, and room temperature is hard to keep at a constant comfortable sleeping temperature it was either too hot or too cold. Close to redwood forest

DO NOT STAY HERE! It is severely overpriced for what you actually get. The room was kind of dingy and the ocean view was more like 3/4 parking lot, 1/4 ocean. Our air conditioner only semi-worked. it wouldn't reliably turn on and it was easily 80+ degrees in the room. We were told we MAY be able to get a discount on our room. They had no more available rooms so we asked if we could get a refund so that we could get a room someplace else with a working air conditioner. We were told that we could not. When we checked in we signed a registration form that stated that the rooms were non-smoking. My husband is a smoker and so he smoked outside, and away from people. He realizes it is a nasty habit and that people don't want to be around it. He disposed of the butts by putting them in a cup of water and then throwing them in the trashcan. Upon returning home I checked the credit card statement and there was an extra charge for $300!!! When I inquired about it I was told it was because a cigarette butt was found in a cup, in the trash. I explained what happened and was told that I couldn't prove that he hadn't smoked in the room and there was nothing they could do. Okay I understand this, but $300!?! My husband is in the Navy and we were just trying to have a nice weekend together before this next deployment. Do yourself a favor and stay someplace else.

We stayed in room 107 and even though we were on the first floor we could still see the lighthouse. The place is right on the water and the lighthouse is only 2 blocks away. It was a nice room w/ king size bed. Staff is very helpful, especially Andrew. Breakfast was standard fare but got the job done. Due to the construction the hotel is experiencing some growing pains, but once the construction is completed it should be first rate. I'd definitely stay again. Be sure to check the tide schedule when you arrive since the lighthouse in only accessible around low tide. Also, try the Chart Room at the harbor for a nice family dinner.
