“Soooo Beautiful!”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

A really well run campground - So incredibly beautiful with the magical huge redwood trees.
Travelling with three big dogs and we all loved this place!

Nice, big spots. Peaceful and silent at night.
My absolutely best recommendations.

Our family stayed at this Kampground twice - once on July 1st and again on July 12th, 2010, as part of our Oregon/California coast road trip. This was by far our favourite Kampground of all!!!! We were greeted by friendly staff who quickly checked us into the little Kabin that we had rented. The Kabins themselves were situated right in the middle of the magnificent ancient redwoods, but surprisingly, there were NO bugs! We were shocked as we were prepared, armed with bug spray, but we didn't see one mosquito, fly, wasp, bee, beetle, etc. We did see a banana slug, but it was out of the way and didn't interfere with us at all. The Kabin was lovely, quaint, and clean. Because of the extreme humidity of the redwoods, the Kabin was a little "musty" inside, although an hour of an open door helped to dry out the humidity inside quite a bit. The Kabins had a space heater and also had electricity - a light and a 120V plug outlet if you needed to charge anything. The firepits were very well maintained and there were benches surrounding them, so you wouldn't need to bring any of your own chairs. The temperature was pretty constant and it didn't get too chilly at night in July when we were there. This Kampground was very family friendly. It had these cool bikes that were like trikes, and you could rent them for your kids for an hour for $7.00 each. We saw lots of kids riding these throughout the Kampground, so right away, we got this really "family friendly" vibe. We also found the washrooms to be very clean, and there were nice free clean hot showers as well. They also had laundry facilities at a reasonable price, which is always a bonus while you are camping! Another super nice feature of this Kampground is that most days of the week they offer campers an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for only $3.00 each! It also had a nice store where you could purchase firewood ($6.00 for 5 pieces of wood), as well as very nice redwood souveneirs. There were also treats for purchase if you had a sweet tooth craving. As well, there was good fresh hot coffee for purchase in the morning. This Kampground also had a little "petting zoo" with chickens, goats, etc, for young kids to enjoy. This Kampground is located just 5 miles north of Crescent City, which is a large place, where you can get all the amenities you need and it is very conveniently close. We would recommend this Kampground to anyone, and would love to stay here again!

Now, I have not been to EVERY KOA in America, but I have been to lots of them. This one was awesome. It is a ways outside of Crescent City (which you'll be thankful for. The proprieters are super friendly and accommodating. They have a well-stocked game room as well as another room with a large screen TV - great for World Cup action, which was on in the evenings! The campground was quiet enough that some of the camp-phobes in my group slept quite well thank you (even though it's just of the 101). The grass and everything else was nicely kept, the showers clean, blah, blah blah. You get the picture. A KOA just couldn't offer much more.

My parents and I stayed at one of the 4 person Kamping Kabins for 4 nights in early June. The cabin was beautiful and very clean. The beds were comfortable and there was a space heater, electric outlets, a lamp outside and inside, two windows, a porch with a porch swing and two plastic chairs as well as a picnic table with benches and a fire ring. Our cabin was nestled among the Redwoods with lot's of privacy. The communal bathrooms and showers were very clean and well maintained. The recreation hall and store were great. There was wireless internet available but only around the main building area. Overall, we had a wonderful, peaceful stay. I would definitely recommend this campground to everyone. It is within a short drive of all the recreational areas.

Crescent City KOA has individual campsites in a redwood forest, much like you would find at any national park or national forest campground--not packed in like sardines as is usual in KOA's and other RV "campgrounds". They do have those kind of RV sites too but you have a choice. They have a sign that says they have won the KOA Presidential award for many years.

We stayed in the Kamping Kabins. The campground is beautiful. Our sites were spacious and set in the redwooods - very peaceful and gorgeous. We walked the property and saw that the tent campsites were very spacious and beautiful as well. Restrooms were clean. The only complaint I had would be that the restrooms were closed in the morning for cleaning before the posted cleaning hours (when we needed to shower) about 9 a.m. The posted hours were quite a bit later (when most people are well on their way). Overall, I would definitely stay here again. My children (young adults) really enjoyed this place as well.

Our one-night stay at the KOA Crescent City campground was easily one of THE best camping experiences I've had. We were staying here for one night as a mid-point stop on the way up the coast back to Portland, OR, so we weren't expecting much for an overnight. When we arrived at the campsite, we were amazed at the primitive sites located in the groves of Redwoods. Our site had no water or electric hookups - none of the Redwood sites do. However, the large campsite was more than worth it, as was the majesty of the giant Redwoods surrounding us. Both of the bathroom areas at this campground were extremely clean, as were the shower facilities. Surprisingly, neither of the restrooms or showers were overly crowded on a Saturday morning.

The location of this KOA campground is close to the town of Crescent City, which offers any amenities you may need during your stay. Since it is a smaller town, though, some stores/gas stations do close early.

One point to note: The Redwood campsites are VERY dark at night and can be confusing if you are walking to the nearby restrooms. Be sure to take a flashlight for this walk - you WILL need it. On the plus side, though, the dark and the quiet make for a very peaceful evening. At $25 a night, this is an economical trip that'll make some great memories!
