“Last resort, but ok.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Crescent City was pretty full when we arrived late afternoon. Well I guess it was full as the first hotels we tried were either full, almost full and they wanted ridiculous prices for the few rooms left or just way too expensive. The Super 8 was on the Highway, where most of the other chains were so we decided to check them out. They did have rooms, and the price was half what next door was asking so we decided to "give it a go" as we say in Aust. This was our first stay in a Super 8 and although I had read horror stories about others, this was ok. Check in was satisfactory, room, bathroom and toilet were clean, which is our first priority. Bed and shower was fine and we didn't get any highway noise. Breakfast was pretty basic but that was never a priority for us so we just gave it a miss, like we did in a few others and went on our way. I can only report on how we found the place and were treated and can recommend this place if you are looking for a clean, safe, cheap place to sleep without too many luxuries.

We had the misfortune to select this Super 8 for a weekend visit to the Coast. The facilities were
Marginal but our major complaint was the service and staff.

Poor attitude and not helpful-
1)Had to beg to borrow a phone book.
2)Daughter requested an additional blanket in am. They never brought it and she had to go to the office to get one.
3)lastly, we had a plugged toilet and called office to get maintenance to fix it. Had to call a second time. A staff member came to the door with a plunger, handed to us and walked away.

Room Tip: Find another place to stay.

The hotel offered the basic essentials for an overnight stay. You could tell the hotel is a bit older and at the beginning stages of decline. I slept fine but mattress is not as firm as one might like. Room had a refrigerator with a separate door for freezer. Looked to be fairly new. Also had a microwave. Hotel was clean and right off hwy 101. We stayed in the back portion of hotel and noise was not a factor nor was there any noise from the patrons. Breakfast first started at 7 instead of the usual time of 6 am. They did open the door ten minutes early and was immediately full (only three tables) Breakfast offerings were pretty meager. Two kinds of cold cereal, white bread for toast, small pastries, waffles, coffee, milk & juice. Hotel did not have coffee during the day or evening. Hotel has a plaque in the room indicating they want the card key back which I won't do due to security reasons. Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful to the questions asked. Only real problem we had was not due to the hotel. We used their laundry room. We had our last load in the dryer and I went to check whether the clothes were dry. A gal had just gone in to do her washing. The washer was empty and she was first going to start her wash. BUT the first thing she did was to unload the dryer. What a ----. As soon as I walked in she immediately started putting the clothes back in. Apparently an idiot.

You get what you pay for. Pros: Close to everything (food, parks, beach, stores). Cons: Not much offered for breakfast, run down and kind of shabby. It works for a night or 2. Gets kind of loud if you're on the first floor and you have a bunch of bikers in the parking lot.

We booked our room online for $79 a night and arrived at about 8.30 pm. The check in staff was friendly and efficient. We had asked for an upstairs room, based on reviews here saying that if you are in a downstairs room, you can hear people walking around.
Our room was 207. The minute we walked in there, my throat started closing up, it smelled stale in there. I took an allegra and the symptoms subsided.
There is a table with two chairs in there and I would not sit on the chairs. The seats were stained and filthy. The electrical outlets were old and cracked. The one on the wall near the table was actually broken and loose. The faucet at the sink was loose. My husband commented that you could choose which side of the sink you wanted the faucet to be, it was so loose. The TV remote was unresponsive and the TV was snowy.
We stayed the night and went out early in the morning to explore the town. We had the continental breakfast with waffles, which was pretty good. We had booked for 2 nights.
When we returned at about noon, the minute we walked back into the room, I had a severe allergy attack (I do get seasonal allergies, but not as violent as this reaction). My throat closed up, my eyes itched and I felt like I couldn't breathe properly.
We decided that we had to get out of there, so my husband went to the front desk and explained the situation to the lady there. She was very understanding and said she wouldn't charge for the 2nd night, she even offered to refund the first night, but we just paid for the first one. She suggested that it might have been a reaction to the cleaning products.

This place is in severe need of maintenance, the staff is helpful and friendly, the breakfast was ok, but I would never stay there again.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else, we got a room at the Bayview Inn across the road for the next 2 nights ($89 a nig...

We stayed here in June 2012 in room 115 with a king bed for two nights to explore the beautiful redwoods. We paid $64/night via hotels.com and I would say it was a good value for the money.

Check in/out was easy, room was clean (except for a little darkness around the shower knob), staff was nice, TV was small but adequate, mattress was average, you could hear the people above us walking around but it wasn't bad, and breakfast was actually pretty good. They had "make your own waffles", two cereal options, coffee/OJ, and raspberry Yoplait yogurt.

Location is convenient at the south end of Crescent City right on 101. There is a little beach less than a mile down the road. Overall this did the job and I would go back.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room for a quieter experience.

We stayed here to save a little cash. The place is ok for the money. It could have been a little cleaner and the room is in need of some basic maintanance. There is no A/C so in the summer it could be a little uncomfortable if you like it cooler in the room. Location is good. The people up stairs from us sounded like they were practicing for the summer olympics, must have had kids running around or something. So basically if your looking for a one or two night stay with no frills and your not uber concerned about sterile room conditions and can do without new fixtures and furniture in order to save a few bucks, this place will accomplish that for you. The staff was friendly and accomodating but the place could really use a facelift and some maintanance. But again, for the price compared to other places in town it could be worse.
