“Great deal for the price!”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

Curly Redwood Lodge had great character. The staff was friendly, the location was great, the atmosphere and decor was very cool and the room was nice and clean. The bed was a bit uncomfortable and the pillows were rather thin, however. Overall it was charming and the restaurant across the street was yummy!

In Crescent City, I encountered the most ignorant, offensive person I've ever met in the hotel industry, and he was the reception clerk at the motel we had just booked into - 'Curly's Motel'. When I told him that the wifi wasn't working in my room, I received a tirade of abuse in which he refused to believe there was a problem and accused me of calling him a liar when I insisted there was. He even said "If I had a dime for every customer who had said the same as you..." basically confirming there WAS a problem with their network. The owner appeared and was much more polite but still insisted that the issue lay with my netbook. Mainly because of the rudeness, my friend and I asked for a refund and left for another nearby motel, the Super 8 where the wifi worked perfectly. Curly Redwood Lodge does not deserve to be patronised - DON'T GO THERE!

When management brought a laptop out to show you that there was wireless reception, there is nothing else we can do. It is not our responsibility to fix a guest laptop, tablet or any other wireless device. It was clearly working for us on more than one device. You received a refund and went elsewhere, EVERYONE WAS HAPPY!

This was a great place. Clean neat and a slice out of the past. The redwoods paneling is terrific, and the room is clean. There isn't much to this place. No frills, but its cheap, very clean and comfortable, the staff is very friendly, and the building is beautiful.

This is an older hotel that has been well maintained. The interior redwood walls and door have been refinished nicely, and the walls were freshly painted. We had a double queen room, which was quite large, but the bathroom and shower are small, like a European bathroom. The room did not have a refrigerator.

There is no continental breakfast provided, but the room was very attractively priced. For breakfast, walk across the street to a restaurant for a good breakfast.

Room Tip: The hotel is u shaped, so the end rooms are near the road. Request a room near the office which is...

This is fine for what it is and it is affordable, but they could update their beds some, the mattress pad was like an old piece of carpet and the bottom sheet does not stay in place. Unfornately this makes for a bad nights sleep if you are sensitive to that sort of thing, and a good nights sleep is the most important thing. Also the coffee cups for the morning coffee are minuscule.... On the plus side the rooms are clean, spacious, the water pressure and shower are good we stayed back off the road and it was not to noisy and the room had a good tv. Worth the money, but new bedding is needed.

We had stayed there a couple of years ago and were happy with the value and cleanliness of the motel. Stayed there again in December 2012 and froze. The cadet heater could not keep up with the outside temperature. Sat in front of the heater until going to bed plus took the blanket off the other bed to be warm enough to sleep. Also no AAA discount...they say everyone gets it although I don't think that is the way it is supposed to work.

Very spacious and clean, and parking right in front of your suite (when you're road tripping a long way, you need to keep an eye on your ride!). All amenities except in-suite fridge. The rooms could really use a fridge. That being said, the sleep was great. It's right on the highway on the south side of town (our GPS took us to the first hotel on the north side of town, don't listen to your GPS if that's where it's headed). Its kind of neat to be so far from home, and lay your head down at night and still hear the whistlebouy in the distance, and the sea lions barking. The redwood every where is worth seeing by itself.
