Dining options: Dinner, Late Night, Breakfast, Lunch, Reservations
Description: Chef and General Manager James Martin, along with brothers Barry and Brian Jessurun of The Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret and Dog Lane Café in Storrs, opened 85 main in 2005. 85 main was created with goal of offering fresh, quality seafood and steaks along with locally grown produce in an atmosphere one might expect to find in a "big" city. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and cooked-to-order menu items. The interior of the building was completely remodeled, creating a warm, inviting and casual dining environment. During the warmer months, the outdoor patio is open for dining.

“above average”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Food is good although the menu seems to never change. I've had good meals and I've had bad service and overcooked sushi over and over again even after asking them not to over cook it when ordering. I'm giving a very good review on quality of food but please work on your menu choices and service staff, they need more training. I come here from time to time and have to practically drag my wife here because of the previous complaints. I do wish the best for you and hope you can take some constructive criticism.

“Above average service”
Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

Ate lunch recently with co-workers. Place was busy, but waitress was back several times to check on us.

Food was good. Everyone was happy.

Parking is tricky in that area. There is another lot that few know about. It is on the back side of the old railroad station.

“Good food, miserable service”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

Locals call the restaurant "85 Minutes" which is not far off in terms of time between order and delivery of your selections. The quali8ty" of server is mediocre more often not. Perhaps training in proper serving techniques would make a difference. Still, servers are generally very pleasant other than the owner's teenage daughter who may function best in the kitchen. One imagines there has to be a wrench in the system to account for all the problems.
The food is usually quite good, good for the area at least which is laden with pretty awful establishments. While pricey, the upscale fare is often worth it.

“Great little bistro”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We try to eat at 85 Main at least once or twice a year. Service is always pleasant, the selections are good & the cocktails are great.
We love the oysters and think this restaurant is one of the few which integrates a sushi menu well in a non- sushi restaurant.
While it tends to be pricey, it never feels like a ripoff.

“Delightful dining in a jewel box town in the "Last Green Valley".”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We stopped for lunch while in town and had delightful meal. My wife started with the clam and corn chowder. This was not "Massachusetts style heavy with milk and cream but rather Rhode Island in style, no dairy, other than some butter. It is a very light chowder, but the flavor of the clams, of which there was a bounty, and the roasted corn was of great depth. Usually my wife shares, but no this time.

For our main course my wife had a very fresh, warm goat cheese salad. The greens were crisp and fresh. The goat cheese was not just a random crumble, but a rather large slice covered in crumbs and gently warmed.

I had the "Adult mac and cheese", but any kid would love its rich sweet flavor. It was made with roasted sweet pumpkin, the flavors worked beautifully. I was seriously considering a second portion, but common sense overcame me. Damn you common sense!

Service was as good as the food. Next time out for a drive in the "Last Green"Vally", we'll put 85 Main on a must stop for food.
