We ate here twice while staying in Pakoa. Both nights the food was good, hot and fresh. Both nights the service severely declined after dinner was finished and it was time to pay. First night, the server at least came by and said she was sorry and she'd have our card back in a moment. Very helpful to know you haven't been forgotten. Second night, our server never came back for plates. My friend left to go get gas for the car and told the server we needed our bill. She never came out. I had to go to the bar to pay. The time of payment when a customer is ready to leave is when you can really make or break the service. I hate the feeling of being trapped in a restaurant.

While staying at a resort on the west side of the big island we were looking for a good place to eat. We found this place. From the outside you will have second thoughts when you only see a couple of cars in the lot. Here's a clue, the parking lot is in the back. The place looks over the oil tanks across the road but don't let that stop you. The food is very good, the service is good and the prices are in the ball park when it comes to Hawaii. We would eat here again. Order the spare ribs. Some of the best I have had.

Travel author Rick Steves often tells people to get out away from the hotels and dine like a local. Seafood Bar & Grill is one of those places that Rick would enjoy. First off, the TripAdvisor location is shows Waimea and that's not the case. Hawaii address can be a bit weird due to postal limitations, and the actual address is Kamuela, but you'll find Seafood Bar & Grill at Kawaihae Harbor and on Kawaihae Road.

Located on the second floor of a two story walk up, Seafood Bar & Grill excels at seafood, sandwiches and local color. As others have said, if you're looking for a view and ambiance this isn't it. You will find friendly locals stopping in after work or play and a small number of tourists who are made to feel welcome.

You know you've found a good seafood restaurant when they offer steamed fish. Fish like Ono, Opakapaka and Monchong are better when steamed, and we enjoyed all three on our three different visits in escaping our resort hotel. Daily specials are written on the chalk board. My wife's salad was just OK so I'd say this is not a salad place.

We dined at the very long bar and service was good. Our server talked us into mud pie for desert which along with their volcano cake is very good. Other customers seamed to be enjoying their burgers, sandwiches and other entrees. Seafood Bar has a small deck but it overlooks the parking lot and commercial harbor just across the road. You'll find this to be about a 10 to 15 minute drive from most hotels on the Kohala Coast.

The reviews rave about this place. We had a decent lunch, but it was nothing to rave about. The food is average, and the view is awful (storage tanks and dirt).
